As a Fred supporter, what would your feelings be if he teamed up on a ticket with McCain with Thompson being the VP?

McLame (D-AZ) isn't even on the radar. Have you ever heard Jeri speak? Wow! A Thompson/Thompson ticket would get my vote.

Other offerings - Thompson/Hunter, Thompson/Petraeus & Thompson/Cheney. (Keeping the leftists in therapy for another eight years would do the country good.)

I just don’t see McCain winning the nomination, regardless. It seems to me he tops out at 30-35% max.

Agree. That's how it's been up to now.

But it's hard to say what happens after today. Florida will be extremely expensive. And after FLA, the campaign will fracture among 20 states. Airtime becomes more critical...both free and paid. Fewer campaign rallies, more tarmac events.

It's just hard to say how McCain works in that environment. He'll have the "poll momentum" and the media on his side. Will enough pubbies resist that and deny him "his turn"? I'm worried they won't.

I was standing about 6 feet away from Fred when the VP question was asked at a campaign appearance. With my own eyes, I watched him say “NO”. If he were to take a VP spot, his reputation of honesty would be forever damaged.

That brings up an interesting point. Even though I wasn’t a Dole supporter, I really respected the fact that he resigned his Senate seat in order to run for President. (I would eventually vote for the ‘Kemp for VP’ ticket.) It galls me to no end to see these Senators running for President while holding on to their Senate seats as a safety net. (e.g. Liebermann, Kerry, Clinton, Obama, Dodd, Biden, McCain.) See a common denominator there?

South Carolina:

From a New Jersey conservative in a barren political landscape.

Please do the right thing today.

Fred Thompson ‘08.

Instead of voting against someone, why don’t you vote FOR someone. Later states will stop McCain. SC could stop Fred by thinking like that.

“Forgive me - but what in the hell are you thinking?”

Your exactly right. Too many people think that they are strategists and statisticians and forget that it is best to vote your conviction on who is best for the country.

Those that vote the polls are victims of what I like to call the media/RINO’s “gullible strategy”.

Remember PT Barnum.

No, NO, NOOOOOOO.

No matter WHO McCain chooses- he will not get my vote.

We have early voting in Florida- I’ve been this week and voted for Fred. I don’t give a good damn what the polls anywhere say- I vote for the BEST.

Is it a winner take all or do they divide the delegates? The last poll that I saw had Fred running 3rd.

What are you talking about? I think you need to pull the underwear out of your crack and go back in read the thread. I asked nothing of you or anyone else. I am sorry that your candidate of choice is not winning, but is that a reason to be a jerk?

Peggy Noonan - Republicans will crawl over broken glass to vote for their man! I think it was in 1999, can’t be sure. I have always called myself a broken glass Republican since then.

If it’s true that mostly idealogues vote in these primaries, I have to ask, what’s wrong with conservatives in South Carolina that they’d vote McCain or Huckabee to such a degree? Don’t they remember amnesty, McCain-Feingold, etc.? If they truly are so conservative, the choice is clear and these two leftists should not get a second look.
