Does anyone think there is any other candidate that would be so honest and also so conservative on this issue? If we want to fund goodwill to Africa let us do it through personally charity. What a novel concept. A concept that our founders valued.

Good for Fred! Christ works through the Church, not through the government.

A perfect statement from Fred.
Great to see the ComPost shrieking like ninnies about it, too.

"Does anyone think there is any other candidate that would be so honest and also so conservative on this issue?" And also so very correct. The man obviously knows his Christianity. I wonder how the Huckster would do on the same question. I'd bet he'd opt for "charity by government fiat".

What a sickening editorial! Indeed it is. What you need to keep in mind about these illiberals is that they prefer Government (others) to do what they should be doing themselves. Its much easier to fake compassion through other people than to put forth the effort on their own. They are typically morally lazy, unthoughtful in any real sense, and totally self absorbed. They are typically the most elitist and as he so called Fred the most callous people around.

Fred absolutely nailed this issue with the only proper response, both for a Christian and for a conservative.

I don’t know of any Christian version Bible that tells us to reach in our neighbor’s pocket to satisfy our moral obligations to our fellow men. I don’t know what part of our Constitution gives power to any politician to take money from one citizen and give it to another. Yet, some politicians find it easily.

This left wing hack said "Thompson's questioner got it wrong. Support for the fight against AIDS is not a matter of being a "Christian" or a "conservative" -- or a liberal or a Buddhist. It is an expression of compassion and empathy, which also reflects a serious conception of America's role in the world.
I want to know where that hack's "compssion" is for all the other health problems Fred spelled out in his answer. This guy just didn't like the way Fred wouldn't pander to his pet disease.
To: Maelstorm
Definitely worthy of a Barf Alert, though it did highlight some of the key reasons I’m voting for Fred.

"What a sickening editorial!" I agree! I can't stand the preening sanctimoniousness of leftists who think that their "altruism" with other peoples money is a virtue.
There's a "high stakes ideological struggle" in this country too.

AID’s is a completely preventable disease. Why throw money into Africa for a bunch idiots who take no precautions to avoid the virus. If anything that money would be better spent here for something like cancer research that can catch anyone off guard.

To: ThermoNuclearWarrior
People give money to African charities because they believe their money can do some good there. While a lot of people have the oppurtunity to be educated about and avoid sexually transmitted diseases, the horrific state of much of Africa leaves much to be desired. You’re assuming most Africans in AIDS-plagued countries have the same level of knowledge about the disease as we do in the West, which simply isn’t so.
While I don’t support government-funded charity, it doesn’t mean people suffering from AIDS are all idiots who take no precautions. It means they’ve never known what precautions to take, and have never really had an oppurtunity to find out.
To: Aussieteen
With the amount of money that’s been spent on Africa I find it hard to believe that most are still not educated to some degree on the AID’s Virus. If they aren’t then where is the HUGE amount of money being used to educate them going?
