Chicago Lawyer goes before judge for damage to Marines car. Judge is a former Marine.

Posted on 01/18/2008 3:11:00 PM PST by Bozworth

The case was called at 13:33, and the Defendant did not show up. There were 2 heavy hitter State's Attorneys here to handle it. The Judge increased his bond to $20,000.00 or 10 percent cash, and put out a warrant for his arrest.

The Defendant called at 13:40 to say that he will be a half an hout late and was waiting for the media to leave. The Judge said in open court that if he does shows up he will be taken into custody, and if he doesn't he is fair game for any law enforcement agency that wants to pick him up.

I read elsewhere he did $2,400 damage to the car. Can we presume he;ll be seeing the Marine in Small Claims Court?

Glad to get the followup in this case.

As a lapsed lawyer myself, let me say that this guy should also get a 1 year suspension on his right to practice. Creep.

That $20,000 warrant sworn out on him oughtta get every LEO department looking for a payday.

I don't think LEO can get monetary rewards for doing their job...

If the Marines would stoop low enough (due to the current state of justices), maybe we could fix our country and require all judges be former Marines.

Marines have a tradition since 1775 that "No Marine gets left behind."
A tradition started, I might add, at Tun Tavern. Semper Fi ...

That's what it means in some localities, paid for by the defendant and rewarded to the apprehending police department. They use it to pay overtime for their officers. Not all warrants are worth apprehending a crook. Some localities won't even bother with a $250 or $500 warrant that's typically sworn out for a person not showing up for jury duty or traffic court, but $20k can generate interest.

Also, not all bounty hunters are bail bondsmen like Dwayne 'Dog' Chapman of TV fame. Some of the hungrier guys just sit around the courthouse looking for work doing menial court jobs like process serving until a big fat potential payday is announced in the form of a judge swearing out a high dollar warrant against someone evading justice. It's how some private eyes make money on the side if they haven't got any active clients.

If you laid all of the lawyers in the world, end to end, on the equator,it would be a good idea to just leave them there.

I like your idea quite a bit!

And then the deal was done, and he was taken away by the sheriffs to be released later.

I hope he spends the weekend in jail. For his 30 hours of service he ought to have to have to wax Marine's cars so they shine like a new penny.

You know you're in trouble when the judge and your opponent start shouting "Ooo-rah" at each other.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That made my day. BTT.
