>> Why are both the Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party so “open borders” when it comes to the illegal immigration issue? <<

The CP is very hard-core anti-illegal immigration. It is the Libertarian Party that always pushed for open borders and "free movement of peoples"

The question is why didn't Ron Paul renounce the LP's position on immigration when he was the party's nominee in 1988, if he's as staunchly pro-border security as he claims?

Because in 1988 there was not the numbers of illegals we see today especially in the past 8 years after W swung the border doors wide open and in effect shut down the BP. Today all states and even many small towns are now effected. Build an Industrial Park the illegals flood it the same with even DOD facilities. Even China Nationals are invited in to those.

Billyboy, I believe Ron Paul ran as a republican in 88 on the LP ticket at the time. He didn’t convert to the LP because he didn’t agree with all the planks of the party platform and publically stated this before he accepted the nomination and nod so there was no misunderstanding. Immigration was one of those planks he didn’t agree with.
