Microsoft seeks patent for office 'spy' software

Microsoft is developing Big Brother-style software capable of remotely monitoring a worker’s productivity, physical wellbeing and competence.

The Times has seen a patent application filed by the company for a computer system that links workers to their computers via wireless sensors that measure their metabolism. The system would allow managers to monitor employees’ performance by measuring their heart rate, body temperature, movement, facial expression and blood pressure. Unions said they fear that employees could be dismissed on the basis of a computer’s assessment of their physiological state.

Just wait until JR requires this for the right to post on FR.

Help the mods out as to which threads to watch.

Another reason for employees to ask the employers to let them use a Mac...

I’m taking that as sarcasm.

Actually, it is true with large organizations. If they're smart they balance the burden with the contribution. Up to them whether short- or long-term on either.

I saw my employer carry an employee through a year+ of relative non-productivity due to a false accusation by his ex-wife. That ended a decade ago (he won), he's still here, and he's a significant contributor to this day.

The first time it happened turned out to be a hoax but fear still clings corporation America causing Microsoft to come to the rescue.

Honest, productive employees have nothing to worry about, and should welcome their employers’ concerns about their well being!

I was really against this at first,, but,, then I started thinking,,, what if,, what if voters could use this on, say, politicians?? Now that might be a very useful tool?!

” The system would allow managers to monitor employees’ performance by measuring their heart rate, body temperature, movement, facial expression and blood pressure.”

This sounds great. It will interface nicely with the implantable microchips that will be implanted into everyone.
Employers and the government have only their workers best interests in mind.
And besides, privacy is only an issue for those with things to hide.

LOL the sad part is that you can find that statement on many threads on FR daily, as you obviously know.

Exactly. Most enlightened people know that the government is our friend, and that we all need the government to protect us from ourselves.

Just great!
My boss will be able to load me up to the point just short of burn out and then keep me there forever more.
This could also be a convenient way to murder employees a boss doesn’t care for but ititating their stress untill they bust.

Funny how the watchers remaining private doesn't seem to mean they have anything to hide??!

The real point to notice is that you're still using it even though you know it's a POS.
