In the Republican caucus held tonight, Republican State Representative Jon Elrod (97th) handily won out over an "establishment backed" Republican candidate former Jerusalem Post boss Tom Rose.
Jon gave his speech to the party faithful and you can hear it HERE.
30-year old Jon Elrod will face off against 33-year old Democrat candidate Andre Carson, grandson of former Congressperson Julia Carson.
Andre Carson, on the other hand, barely won 50% of the vote in the Democrat caucus. However it will take money raised in a short time to put Jon over the top.
Please ping the Indiana list
Jon can really use everyones support right now
Rather left wing district, as I recall.
Not so much anymore. Julia Carson only eked out victories, and the Democrats are NOT unified in Andre Carson. With him proclaiming himself as a practicing Muslim he’s offended the other Democrat groups such as the gays and feminists.
Thanks for the ping
this is a decent shot at taking over a long time rat district
Carson will win (unfortunately), and could have a job for life if he plays his cards right.
Don’t hold that coronation ceremony for Prince Andre just yet...

Also, an unscientific IndyStar.com readers poll has Elrod up 72-28 over Andre Carson. Keep in mind this is similar numbers Mayor Greg Ballard would receive in similar things.
I’d love to be wrong on this...In years past I’d get excited about a great candidate to defeat Julia (e.g. Marvin Scott, Eric Dickerson) only to be disappointed. I have a hard time believing the 7th district voters will do the right thing.
No, the GOP will not win the seat, as it can only change hands through primogeniture.
I’m sorry, but I didn’t grieve for Julia Carson (C-Ommunist).
While the guys on local radio did the PC thing and whined about how she would be “missed”, I was laughing to myself in my car.
Due to FR’s TOS, I won’t say what I REALLY think.
