With all due respect, I think FR is a ceaselessly pro-Thompson campaign machine...I’m just trying to bring some alternative viewpoints, and if “shut up” is the best defense of Thompson against the doubts of a fellow Republican...then you’re all grossly unprepared to deal with the attacks that will come from the left.

Far from asking you to “shut up”, we’re demanding that you “put up”.

If you want discussion, please, by all means add something worth chewing on. You think Fred Thompson wouldn’t do well in the general election. Fair enough, but we’re not really interested in your mere assertion of opinion.

Tell us WHY you think so. Then us WHY you don’t think that Fred Thompson can reach out to Democrats who are appalled at the hijacking of their party by the CodePink, International ANSWER, Moveon.org types?

How can one of the other candidates do that or do you think it is already a lost cause no matter who the Republican nominee?

Don’t come by here, drop a turd in the punchbowl and expect to be made to feel welcome. ADD something constructive if you can.

Alternative viewpoints?

Why the need for alternative viewpoints. Do you provide alternative viewpoints on Hillary/Obama?

Fred is my choice. I’ve had enough of “alternative viewpoints” especially when they include those that we know will turn on us when they get in office - McCain, Romney, Huckabee, Rudy.

Why would they turn on us? Because they are not confirmed true conservatives. They each have caved to the left in one way or another. Thompson is the only one who has the conservative credentials.

I think the reason your post generated the response it did, is that you didn’t provide any thoughtful rational for your assertion. Many have explained in detail how the RINO’s in the field would fracture the coalition and bring about a DEM Landslide victory, but you just dropped a bomb without any explanation.

Seems to me that the responses on this thread to your assertions show a marvelous preparedness.

So far, you've posted a dozen times or so on a thread without a single supporting fact to your point. I would posit that a person like that is a practiced obfuscator and likely a company shill.

Fred Thompson has the experience and the "fervor" (chuckle, chuckle, good try with using a new word for an old talking point) to win in the general election. It remains to be seen if his campaign can get traction.

All we have from you so far is an 'Ain't so!' assertion. We're waiting for your first argument. For reference, please see: this argument definition.

No, it's a conservative forum. Since only one conservative was invited to last night's debate... well, you do the math.

I think that if you want to discuss, providing an explanation of what facts inform your opinion about Thompson in the general election would provide a better chance for us to discuss those facts.

We could first debate whether the facts are actually true, and then we could debate whether those facts can rationally lead to your conclusion.

Simple statements of opinion are mostly useless for a discussion, because others simply express their opinion back, and there’s nothing to actually debate over.

Usually debates that start that way quickly become personal attacks, because the only thing to “debate” is whether the person giving the opinion has any credibility, and to win THAT argument you have to attack the other’s credibility.

Anyway, that’s my two cents, not just for you but really for everybody who posts. Provide facts, give your rational argument supporting your conclusions, and let’s discuss them.

FR is a pro Reagan Coalition "machine".

And that coalition has a proven track record.

Fred has already demonstrated that the real key to why conservatism will hammer liberalism unrelentlessly in a general election is because...and let me shout this out loud...

LIBERAL ARGUMENTS CANNOT STAND UP TO CONSERVATIVE ARGUMENTS. PERIOD.

Didn’t you see how Huckleberry looked as if he’d rather be anyplace else, and had a rebuttal that pretty much sounded as if it reflected the image of a mouse ducking back into its hole (to quote a fellow member on Freerepublic) when Fred literally tore him apart about his socialist economic and immigration policies? Case in point

If you stick Thompson up against Osama or Billary, he will destroy them on the microphone. A debate between the two would be like watching Joe Pesci get whacked in Casino
