No, as president he could close it, that has nothing to do with whether he is legally required to shut it down, or to afford the prisoners there additional rights.
Huckabee’s problem is he does not persuasively deal with allegations of a liberal record. For example, he says (including tonight w Hannity) that he wants to shut Guantanamo down because it’s too soft on the prisoners. That is not the reason he originally said he wanted to close it, he’s trying to be too tricky that way.
On Hannity radio the other day he tried to tell Hannity he raised some taxes but lowered others. Hannity asked didn’t he raise more? Huckabee evaded that he didn’t have the numbers. Hannity read the numbers showing he raised by $500 million more than he lowered, and then Huckabee said “Those numbers are probably accurate”.
Maybe he was backpedaling...
remember SC has Fort Jackson, Charleston AFB, MYRTLE BEACH AFB (where he was tonight) Parris Island Marine Base, etc..
The military and veteran vote is huge in SC and there are lots of conservatives...
Huck might have been playing to his audience......
Ooooooooooooooooo
And dont forget the Navy....
LOL
moot point/debatable point
He shows his lack of understanding..The Supreme Court didn’t say to close GITMO, they said they wanted the Executive Branch to set up a proper way to try the combatants held at GITMO..The government is afraid to bring these combatants into the US because then the Supreme Court may say that now the combatants are entitled to representation by an attorney and a hearing in a US Court..which the Exec branch wants to avoid at all costs. So they have set up a military tribunal at GITMO and some of the cases are beginning to be heard...
Nope.
Huckabee just isn’t prepared/qualified to process the real reasoning of the court.
