Your options have already been limited by the time you've reached that point, and you have a choice to make between a RINO as the R nominee, and the Marxist D nominee. I'm saying that I'll vote for the R nominee before I'll sit at home, or vote for the Marxist D. I may not have much influence with the R, but the chances of influencing the actions of a RINO are better than the zero chance we have of doing the same with a D.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the scenario offered, if so, I apologize.
What difference would it make to have Swartzeneggar or Bustamonte as California's Governor? S.B 777 and experience tells us not to vote for RINOs.
Perhaps the difference is in how long individuals are willing to keep compromising. As I see it, I didn't compromise in the last Presidential election as I think President Bush is a fine President. Of course he and I don't agree on everything and at the same time, I don't have access to all the information he has.
But, I won't compromise in the next election just as many Californian's didn't compromise in the last election for Governor. I'd rather make a stand than fall for anything. If it's G,R or M, I write my candidate in. I'm drawing a line in the sand.
