I think you’ve made a good rational arguement for supporting the nominee no mater who they are. I’m just not as convinced as you are, that we’re getting the bang for the buck you think we are.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t follow each and every federal judge appointment. Are we getting the caliber of people in there that we truly wish for?
Right now we have a Supreme Court with seven of nine judges appointed by whom? Yep, republicans. We have seven of nine and we’re still fighting to break even or go over the top. Does that tell you anything?
Some things are done out in the open for all to see. Some things happen in the background and we’re not privy to what the overall outcome is. And I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that we have had more than a few disgusting federal judge appointments over what will be Bush’s eight year term.
Now, can I say that definitively. Absolutely not. I’m going with my gutt on this one and acknowledge I may be off base. I’m fairly confident I’m not that far off target though.
I hear you, and I’m ceratin as well that there are likely some lower court appointees by Bush that under the microscope you and I would both say “How the h-— did he nominate that schmuck?” And yes, seven of the current 9 SC justices were appointed by Republican presidents, yet we still don’t have a conservative majority. But look at the 2 Bush got on the court, and think to yourself “who would it have been instead if Gore or Kerry had been president?” That is the calculus I work from. Yeah, a republican president isn’t a guarantee that the next SC justice, or other lower level appointees, will be as conservative as I’d like, but on the other hand, its a 100% certainty that if Hillary or Obama or Edwards is appointing them, I’ll despise them.
