CASPER, Wyo. Mitt Romney grabbed the early lead in Wyomings Republican caucuses Saturday as the state had its brief moment in the political spotlight sandwiched between attention-getting contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.
The former Massachusetts governor gained the first four delegates while California Rep. Duncan Hunter won a fifth.
Romney easily led the overall vote with more than 50 percent. Hunter was second with 21 percent and Fred Thompson, who hadnt won any delegates, was third with 17 percent. Results were expected throughout the day.

Mitt is right to embrace the GOP platform and the HLA while acknowleding it is a two-step process. While it may not be plausible in the near future, the country benefits from a president willing to use the bully pulpit to further the cause. If one doesn't even support the ultimate outcome -- the HLA -- how is that strongly pro-life? Pro-lifers are better served by a president willing to work towards the ultimate goal, regardless of whether or not it is attainable in the near future.
HLA doesn’t matter as much as credibility on these issues.
Just ask National Right to Life, they endorsed Fred (along with at least half a dozen state organizations).
And again, the President has NO constitutional role in amendment of the constitution. None.
However, more recently, he governed conservatively in Massachusetts. Leading pro-family and pro-life people in Massachusetts applauded his efforts.
Actions speak louder than words.
I must go out for a few hours. Would someone please ping me to the debate thread, if you’re around? Thanks!!!
I find it very odd that an organization doesn’t care whether someone supports their ulitmate goal or not. It might be the most mind-boggling thing from the campaign. So far.
Will do!
Ultimately, it’s quite difficult to know WHAT Slick Willard supports. His bona fides on these issues are not particularly bona or fide.
They only just dug it up. You-tube paints an entirely different picture of Romney 1994-2005. Here's one exmaple. Would a conservative say such things?
Abortion & gay rights & Reagan-Bush & 'equal rights':

Just turned on the news....has the MSM reported Mitt’s lead in Wyoming?
Yep, third in Iowa. Now second in Wyoming.
It’s an UPWARD TREND I tell ya!
:)
I want a trustworthy conservative with expertise in foreign policy. One who Condi Rice called upon to head a policy committee, one who was on the Senate intelligence committee, one who would sit across the table from the evil ones and make them shudder inside. Fred Thompson.
Keep Chipping!
How can you talk when you're supporting a candidate that believes the states ought to have the right to choose whether or not they want to 'murder' the unborn.
If Romney weren't LDS, he wouldn't have a prayer of winning Wyoming. This is one state where the religion issue cuts in Mitt's favor.
I read earlier around here that the Mormon population is 10 to 15%....didn’t Romney get a tremendously high percentage of the vote? No it wasn’t because of Mormons.
No pro-life endorsement for Romney.
See #8 with link to Massachusetts for Life comments.
You didn't read that letter I linked for you, did you? I guess all those pro-life and pro-family people who were applauding Mitt's conservative actions in Massachusetts just don't know him as well as you do, huh?
That’s not really Wyoming, guy. Come out and visit! It’s a beautiful state. But we’re way too evenly distributed for stuff like that.
I’ll say it again: the 3 conservatives got the nods.
Romney probably won because his family has been here the most (it helps when you have 5 kids out campaigning for you) and because he’s the conservative with the best shot of winning.
I knew Fred would be popular, and he was.
I did get a laugh out of the Ron Paul supporters today. :)
“Wyoming is dead without.... Ron Paul! Ron Paul Ron Paul!”
Kind of catchy in an obnoxious way. ;)
Hahaha. You guys are to funny. Trying to cut it both ways.
