What About Duncan Hunter?
Heartford Courant ^ | Jan. 4, 2008 | David Lyon

Posted on 01/05/2008 9:00:37 AM PST by AuntB

The Courant missed a Republican candidate for president during its front-page profile news series ["Defining Moments"] and its editorial series [Dec. 31, Jan. 2, "Countdown To Iowa"]. That candidate is Rep. Duncan Hunter, from the San Diego area of California.

Hunter has a solid and consistent record of achievement and service since he was first elected to Congress in 1980. A Vietnam war veteran, his family has a strong military heritage. He is a man of courage and integrity who is willing to tell the truth, even if it isn't politically correct. He's not a fly-by-night, one-issue or offbeat candidate.

In our republic, the role of the media is to provide information to the citizens, so they can select their leaders and help to decide the direction of our country. The media should not be choosing our leaders for us. The voters should be informed about all the candidates; then they can decide who will win. If The Courant can provide information about low-polling Democratic candidates (such as Joseph Biden, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd and Dennis Kucinich), then it can do so for Duncan Hunter. His website is www.gohunter08.com.

When the voters know about all the candidates, then they can decide for themselves who should lead our country.

David Lyon

“Hasn’t that been the case for quite a while?”

Because of the dangers we are confronting, it is even more unfortunate to see a man like Hunter swept aside.

What About Duncan Hunter?

At least he isn't taking many votes away from the other candidates.

“Word going around is that Newt Gingrich is helping Huckabee behind the scenes in hopes that his disastrous in the general election will need to 4 years of GOP wandering in the desert only to be “rescued” by Newt in ‘12.”

Interesting. His campaign certainly has that ‘smell’. Where you find Newt, you usually find Grover Norquist. The first time you know Grover is behind a candidate, RUN, take your children, your money and RUN the other way.

If Reagan were running today he would be in the same boat as Hunter but at least they would both be in good principled company.

Hunter stays in GOP presidential race
Posted: 11:12 PM ET

(CNN) – Rep. Duncan Hunter will continue his bid for the Republican presidential nomination despite his last place finish Thursday in the Iowa caucuses, his campaign manager tells CNN.

“Absolutely, he is staying in,” Roy Tyler, the California Republican’s top aide, said in an interview late Thursday night. “We actually predicted we would not do well in Iowa. We were not expecting a lot. That is why we did not put a lot of resources into there.”

..... The California Republican has already announced he will retire from Congress at the end of the year.

I read that interview the other day. It deserves it’s own post, imo. thanks for posting here, tho. I like the way Duncan Hunter answers questions. Direct, to the point, pure information. I don’t have to sit and guess what he really meant.

As long as he stays in the race, I’ll vote for him.

In our republic, the role of the media is to provide information to the citizens

There is no law to that effect. The Constitution simply says that the press is free. It doesn't say that it's free to accomplish X, Y, or Z.

It would be great to have a thorough, honest, unbiashed player in the media, but there is no requirement that they be so.

Hunter's role (and any candidate's) is to figure a way around the press. The issue is mass dissemination of information. The goal is to get your message in the hands of that mass audience better than does your opponent.

Duncan Hunter soldiers on

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/01/03/duncan-hunter-soldiers-on/

Copley News Service follows Duncan Hunter on the campaign trail. Having skipped Iowa and pulling less than 1 percent, he’s soldiering on with a shoestring budget in New Hampshire. I like this quote:

“My motto in politics is never complain,” Hunter said. “My trademark for 26 years has been, ‘Don’t whine. Keep working.’ ”

He’s not even trying. He’s just raising money for his son’s congressional campaign.
