CLINTONS NO LONGER THE LIFE OF PARTY (inevitability to inadequacy)
NY POST ^ | January 4, 2008 | CHARLES HURT

Posted on 01/04/2008 4:36:45 AM PST by Liz

Awaiting her coronation, Hillary Rodham Clinton instead faced a seething revolt within her own party. More than 70% of Iowa Democrats rejected her....after 15 years of domination, the Clinton dynasty has finally lost its grip on the Party. What's devastating to her is that she lost so badly to a political novice. The problem with caressing the jewels of the crown before the coronation is that it's embarrassing when it turns out that the coronation goes to someone else. Clinton's invincibility has turned into inadequacy.

If we are correct -- and I expect we are -- we have just defined Huckabee's base as "pro-life populism", quite distinct from conservatism (which is innately pro-life).

Huckabee is more William Jennings Bryant than he is Ronald Reagan (or Rush Limbaugh).

Thus, the Huckabee base is limited and probably can't achieve a majority in the GOP. However, populism is directly opposed to conservatism when it comes to the issues of a.) governmental power and influence and b.) class warfare.

Consequently, it's a minority that can do some damage.

Pat, you're right...they don't listen to Rush because they don't want to. It's the "identity" factor Rush talked about the other day.

RUSH: You can love your guy. Just don't call him conservative.

I am happy for Obama. It is really great that this country has progressed enough for his Iowa win to happen. However, I cannot support Obama’s super liberal views. It saddens me that he is not on my side.

He is eloquent, likeable and classy, and his soaring rhetoric is JFK-esque. If I happen to be walking by the TV and he's on, I stop and listen. Unfortunately, all I hear is fluff and empty platitudes. There's no "there" there - just an attractive package with ultra-liberal ideology.

“Huckabee another (dope) from Arkansas, who uses religion like a snake-oil salesman.”

Excellent description!! What is it about that state that produces such morally bankrupt politicians who make it onto the national stage?? Lord save us from another presidential candidate from Arkansas!!

Huck uses religion like a snake oil salesman and the msm are quiet as churchmice. YET, when our President even hints that he is a Christian, hades opens her doors and rains brimstone on him. I think there’s a difference here...I haven’t figured it out yet.

"Hillary’s problem is that Obama is getting the airhead vote she was counting on."

Perceptive comment.

CLINTONFATIGUED

It was inevitable that eventually people would become tired of seeing that gray fuzzy-haired Brillo pad with the W.C. Fields nose scanning the audience with seedy lecherous eyes for poontang.

But why so long?

a la Don Corleone.

Husain and Edwards had better spend a lot of extra money wacthing out for themselves, their families and their pets. Accidents and suicides just seem to happen when people appear to threaten the Clintonistas.

I believe you are correct AP...Obama, even with the deep pockets of Oprah behind him, is first on the Clintonista ‘List.’ Edwards is just fluff and will be easily dispatched...but they need to ruin Obama quickly to stave off futher humiliation.

Everyone is voting “change”. Change from what to what? From capitalism to socialism? From freedom to tyranny? It seems to me that though everything is not well in this country, it could get a lot worse with the wrong type of changes. People need to ask, “What do you want to change and how do you propose to make these changes? Who loses what in these changes and who gains what with these changes?” You want the troops home regardless of the fact we are now winning in Iraq? Then we’ll change from fighting them in Iraq to fighting them here on our soil. So be it. You’ll have change. You bought too much house with an adjustable mortgage. Maybe you want change so the government can bail you out of your bad decision. Is that the kind of change you want? Good business decisions usually bring good results. Think about it. Why not buy the size house you can actually afford five years down the road. You need to find out what kind of changes these men and woman (God help us) are talking about. So far, I have heard NO specifics. Believe me folks, change can be far worse than we have it now.

Hillary doesn’t play well to women period. My wife and daughter despise her lack of character by not getting rid of her womanizing husband after he humiliated her in public, not just with Monica but with Paula Jones and many others. Her complicity and willingness to tolerate this behavior because of her personal ambition are viewed as weakness.

My first thought like that was - Bill better watch his back. A widow would get a lot of sympathy.

Undoubtedly that thought has occurred to her!

But Hillary won't off Bill, much as she might be tempted to, because too many of her core supporters base their votes on the promise that a Hillary win puts Bill back in the White House. So having Bill as a husband cuts both ways for her.

More likely she'll fabricate something else as a sympathy ploy. Maybe her mother will become suddenly "ill." Or Hillary herself might have a breast cancer "scare."

The next weird thing about last night was that, even with two days of Huckabee bashing by Rush Limbaugh, Huckabee still won Iowa with a wide margin.

Is Rush losing his edge?

I'm not a huge Huckabee booster, but would hold my nose and vote for him, if he's it. What I see happening with Huckabee is the 'evalgelicals' (hate to sound like the MSM) voting for one of their own. I've said before that evangelicals are to the Republican party as blacks are to the Democrats. The republicans have come to expect their vote - regardless the policies. But Huck's non-conservative bend is certainly a twist on this theory. He seems to be more of what we currently have and less a step to the right. It will be an interesting few months.
