We are few and far between on freerepublic.

Maybe there is a reason for that.

Its not just the religious lemmings. Huckabee cleverly touted his Christianity and the fair tax, aiming at two notorious single issue groups. The fair tax advocates are only second tp the religious right in their intentional ignorance of the complete conservative platform. For them, if the guy supports their single issue, they will follow him anywhere, regardless of whether he cuts the mustard on what it takes to be president.

What they don’t realize, is that this could win the nomination but has a snowball’s chance in hell in a general election.

I don’t know. The last shyster from Hope was determined to be black, by those who determine such things. Maybe this one will be also.

“The bulk of the Freepers fall into line with the establishment.”

Wrong.

The bulk of the Freepers support Thompson and/or Duncan Hunter. “The establishment” has not given these two much support or attention.

Huckabee also doesn’t seem to be in step with the national security/foreign policy position of the Conservative platform.

And furthermore, Huckabee doesn't stand a snow balls chance in hell because the majority of the American people won't elect a Southern Baptist Preacher.

<— not a Huckabee supporter.

But I must acknowledge his acceptance speech tonight is really good. He not only has a good new speech writer, the writing team is really well suited for Huckabee’s message.

Was that before or after Mike apologized for the assassination of Bhutto?

I’m just not on the Huck-wagon, and I don’t think that I ever will be.

Mike Huckabee stands a very good chance of winning the presidency and his preaching background will not be a negative factor for him.

Hatred has blinded so many on this site to the simple reality the man has superior natural skills in the political arena.

He may not be a Reagan but he has the same kind of charm.

I fear the attacks on Huckabee will now begin to really ramp up. It remains to be seen if he can overcome them. The real fear is the party establishment will ultimately alienate the social conservatives with their attacks.

This frothing-at-the-mouth, evangelical, social-conservative would have a VERY hard time voting for Huckabee in the general election. He would give Republican approval to most of the left's economic, immigration and foreign policy dreams (W already accomplished that on immigration). Not to mention he shows no sign of having even a passing acquaintance with what is going on overseas.

He would be a disaster for Republicans if nominated. If by some miracle he were elected, he would be an even worse disaster for Republicans.

All Right. Amnesty for all is one step closer!!!! We’ll be vacationing in Cuba next year once the Embargo is lifted and an expanded SCHIP bill is within our grasp. Not to mention our enemies will soon love us once we abandon that mean old “bunker mentality”

I’m so happy, I could hurl.

I am impressed by him, not so much by his views as by his value.

Can you or somebody explain to us the controversy over Huckabee's Theology Degree ? Apparently he gave the impression that he had a degree in theology when he really did not.

If so, that's dishonest and I have to agree with you about the values thing. But if there is a good reason to reject this accusation, I'm all ears.
