With that expression on Shep’s face, he could ONLY be looking into a mirror behind the camera.

If this gains traction in the next couple of hours, it’s absolutely unpredictable as to what will happen tonight

Agree, if this catches fire it could be a pre-caucus "dean scream" moment for Willard.

How DARE anyone even DISCUSS this 'dirty trick by the Mythsters.

“The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.
The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to New Hampshire Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.”

- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006

“Romney arrived on the scene with great promise,
but is leaving the Republican Party here in shambles.
Not only are the Republicans yielding the governor’s office
for the first time in 16 years, but registered Republicans
have fallen by 31,000 since Romney took office,
and their legislative presence is at historic lows.
But it worked out fine for him:
He is now chasing the prize he really covets, the presidency.”"

- Boston Globe 11/8/2006

Maybe Mitt had a vision that commanded him to smear Fred.....or something.

And what’s really bad is that people all over ran with that rumor. Here in L.A. the morning guys were quoting the rumor as FACT at 6 am.

Ugh, Romney the Slick on the radio with Sean right now. Sean is gushing.

Don’t really buy it about Romney. This wouldn’t help Romney at all, no reason to think that Fred’s supporters would go to Mitt. The most likely gain would be in the form of McCain. A Thompson drop could help McCain jump to 3rd in Iowa and help continue his comeback story and propel him into NH in good shape.

Frankly Shep spent half the interview with the Fred team asking if they leaked it themselves in order to get the media attention of saying “I’m in it”

Sorry, but you are mistaken. I heard her say last night that he is with the Romney campaign. She says it every time.

Maybe he was previously with McCain?

Mitt’s spokesman said he didn’t know he was in the race.
That just makes Mitt's spokesman either A) a bad hire or B) a liar. Neither speaks well of Mitt. Kind of a brainless remark on your part, as well.

Again, show some proof. Any proof. You can't just throw out an accusation and claim it's true without backing it up. Show us a single shread of proof. Rumor as truth. Unbelievable. Romney is being Borked by his own side.

Easton is married to Russell John Schriefer, a political strategist and adviser to Mitt Romney.

"Getting yourself not some but LOTS of free air-time, talking about how you are in the race, blaming another campaign, and getting YOUR message out is actually very schrewd."

First, some of us don't think such tactics are shrewd. We consider them sleazy and dishonest. Fred has not given us reason to believe he is either.

Second, in a state where turn out is the most crucial part of the election, a candidate does nothing to put doubt in the mind of his supporters. Absolutely nothing. Even after denying this story, there will be some who will believe it or have nagging doubts. That's why 11th hour dirty tricks like this are so tempting to engage in. They have tremendous potential for damage. Even a small effect can make the difference between one place and another. So even an unscrupulous candidate who might create a story for sympathy or air time earlier in the campaign when there was lots of time to set it all right, would not drop something as damaging as this within 24 hours of an election.

And finally, dropping the specific rumor that you are dropping out of the campaign would NOT EVER be the rumor a candidate would float for a little free publicity. He'd pick almost anything else.

Actually, Mitt’s spokesman said he didn’t know he was in the race. Hardly sounds threatened.

He said it with a greasy, nervous smile, yet you took it at face value?

Amazing.

It required a link. I don’t have the video yet but I will get it.

Just because a pundit or what not makes such an accusation means it true. Second, I find it unethical to post an accusatory headline when there is no link to read any specifics and decide, to a certain extent, for ourselves. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you heard right but again that doesn't make it so particuarly on the day of the Iowa caucuses. That makes the accusation all that much more suspect.

I know there is alot of passion out there for our favored candidates but inuendo presented as fact on the day of voting can, in this instance, be seen as a smear against Romney.

After the Politico and CNN, Fox News has dissed Fred almost as much.

Fox News is in the tank for Rudy more than I have seen any media outlet for any candidate in the past.
