Arlington leader to push housing (VA)
The Examiner ^ | 11/2/08 | Dan Genz

Arlington (Map, News) - New Arlington County Board Chairman J. Walter Tejada stressed broad initiatives on affordable housing, public health and inclusiveness of immigrants — legal and illegal — as he began his term Tuesday, while other board members warned of a budget crunch ahead.

It is not merely enough to preserve existing affordable housing, Tejada said, but imperative to expand the programs so that more residents can live in the high-priced enclave outside the District of Columbia.

“Arlington is a highly successful community where many people want to live,” said the county’s first Hispanic chairman. “I am committed as ever to do all we can to ensure that people of all economic levels have that opportunity.”

..snip..

Tejada, a Salvadoran immigrant, opened with both “Happy new year” and “Feliz ano nuevo” and slipped briefly into his native language during the middle of his remarks.

“I am very excited he is setting that tone of inclusiveness that we need in Arlington,” said Adres Tobar, a Tejada backer and chairman of the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations. “He represents a tremendous feeling of hope.”

Tejada’s priorities

» Expansion of affordable housing

» Mandatory tenant relocation assistance

» Diversity dialogues addressing immigration

» Increased aid for U.S. citizenship seekers

Happy 2008 fellow FReepers!

While it may seem premature, I nominate Mr. Tejada as "Open-Border Idiot of the Year". All you need to know about this character can be gleaned from his appearance on the 3/30/05 edition of Lou Dobbs' show. Lou schools him pretty bad.

When did “illegal” become so diluted as a word? With regard to immigrants, it now seems to mean “someone here who didn’t get an invitation.”

Tejada is totally unclear on the concept of the rule of law, and the idea of private property.Let me say that again: PRIVATE PROPERTY is not in his world view. Arlington residents, bend over. He sees Arlington as a huge pot of gold to be taken away from the sucker Anglos and given to his paisanos. He has more giveaway schemes than Mrs. Clinton. He has made it very clear he wants to make over Arlington in the image of El Salvador, only with more efficient parking enforcement. I saw him interviewed on local TV last year and he basically promised free housing for every immigrant in Arlington. The place is already a people’s republic. Now it is well on its way to becoming a Third World people’s republic. Thank God I don’t live there.

The invasion continues, I am NOT proud of what has happened in the Once conservative state of Virginia. It has been destroyed. I refuse to even drive north in the State, I went to Mexico with my wife, we walked across the Rio Grande at Laredo, Texas. Showed all the paper work needed to do the process legal. Mexico in that area is a total failure. The people invading the USA have NO SHAME.

One other item, Bush is guilty of not giving a **** about the rule of law being violated by the illgals coming into the USA. He will live with that decision the rest of his life. His legacy should read “The first hispanic President” now him and Clinton have something in common

The market will deliver gobs of affordable housing for those who have the cash to buy or the credit to get a mortgage.

Since people have to live somewhere, unless they sleep under a bridge, rents will soar as long as gobs of illegal aliens are present, and affordable housing for everyone else will be remembered fondly in daydreams.

You missed the best part — he wants to amend the building code to allow additional building of certain types of habitable structures on properties, or to encourage “English basements.” The irony of the term “English” there is too rich.

Anyway — he is taling about packing properties with illegal aliens in unsafe conditions.

Mr. Tejada is a shining example of what happens when the radical left elects a politician based on political correctness rather than qualifications.

Ack! Really?! Where did you hear about this?

If this comes to fruition, no neighborhood, no matter how exclusive, will be immune to fun-house style "enhancements" to cram as many illegals into a dwelling as possible.

Hey Regulator - Arlington County has long been a bastion of liberalism run amok but that may not tell the whole story. There are a number of pro-illegal groups active in and around Northern Virgina - Casa de Maryland and Mexicans w/o Borders to name a few - that aren't above sponsoring a "field trip to the polling place day" for local illegals. Once elected, Tejada was voted in as chairman by his fellow board members.

You nailed it. Tejada’s definition of inclusiveness is making sure illegals in Arlington County get all of the taxpayer-funded freebies they can handle.

His biography says he “came to this country at the age of 13 from El Salvador.” I wonder if he came legally.

Arlington is a place with a soft spot for criminals, especially illegal aliens. Break a law, win an award seems to be their motto. Not a place I would move to.
