The third page of a bogus holiday greeting card received by many South Carolina Republicans this week purported to be from from GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney citing controversial passages of the Book of Mormon. The last page features a photograph of a massive temple above a box that says 'Paid for by the Boston Massachusetts Temple' Romney's campaign said it had nothing to do with the cards and a Boston Temple official said the temple had nothing to do with sending mail to South Carolina Republicans, who go to the polls Jan. 19, 2007. If it is Soros we will never hear of it...
If it comes from another Republican it’ll be on tv Sunday night.
But you’re probably right. This sort of thing requires money, a lack of morals and a great deal of hate. So limosine liberals are a pretty good guess as to the source.
Yes you would think so. I don't support that kind of tactic, but it happens every election. Romney supporters have done some bogus things too during this campaign that he has had to distance himself from. It usually backfires. U.S. Army Retired |
Any proof. I’m in no way a supporter of Mitt, but this is ridiculous. You think he or his campaigners would send an uber-overtly mormon card and put the quote of “exceedinly fair and white” Mary in bold letters. It smacks of political smear playing the racist card.
Unless Lee Atwater has risen from the dead, I’m guessing it’s the handiwork of Huck’s new campaign manager, Ed Rollins. I find it hard to imagine the McCain, Thompson or Giuliani campaign would stoop so low.
diogenesis was just being funny and cynical
No one in Hillary’s campaign would do this, they are not that stupid.
they were talking about this and assorted racism in the LDS a week ago on DU, and the “fair and white” quote from the Mormon book has already been making the rounds in efforts to rile up black voters.
Never thought they’d actually go to the effort of printing up cards and mailing them though.
That’s a lot of actual work for your typical democrat.
Sorry if I didn’t notice the sarcasm. ;)
If so... it was hard to detect. Lol.
My bet is on Huck’s people.
I’m jealous, I didn’t get one.
I agree with you! This guy has been slammed every time he opens his mouth. His ads in NH against McCain are called “attack” ads by the MSM & Fox when all he is doing is making a LEGITIMATE comparison between them. Absolute bias against this man.
Question for a lawyer:
Since this thing presumably was sent via the U. S. Postal Service, did the perpetrators commit mail fraud as defined by federal law?

Romney’s campaign said it had nothing to do with the cards, postmarked Thursday from Columbia with 41-cent stamp, and Boston Temple President Ken Hutchins said Saturday he first heard about the mailing Friday from a woman in Charleston.
Hutchins said the temple had nothing to do with sending mail to South Carolina Republicans, who go to the polls on Jan. 19 in a key early primary.
“It is sad and unfortunate that this kind of deception and trickery has been employed,” said Will Holley, Romney’s South Carolina spokesman. “There is absolutely no place for it in American politics.”
South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson said he intends to “contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Elections Fraud Division and other appropriate authorities, provide them the copy of the mail piece delivered to South Carolina Republicans and ask for a thorough investigation into this matter.”
If so (or whoever may be behind this), I sure hope it will be exposed and his or her campaign severly harmed by the backlash.
