Hooray for Texas in doing this. It can only save lives.

Next..... Texas needs to join most other normal states and pass checkpoint sobriety laws.

We are only 1 of 11 states that do not have DWI checkpoints.

No wonder our DWI fatalities are off the charts.

I can't even begin to address the level of kookism exhibited by your post.

Move to Islamabad before you wreck what is left of America.

“No wonder our DWI fatalities are off the charts.”

Questions:

Does “DUI fatalities” include only those fatalities *caused* by DUI, or do they include, say, those in which a passenger had a beer?

How many of those accidents are caused by illegal aliens?

Sticking everyone butt naked in rubber rooms will save lives as well.
Checkpoints are flat wrong. They are a police intrusion into our lives with no PC.
Forced blood draws for DUI is overkill, in my opinion. Having policemen do it is stupid. They are adding liability exposure for medical problems to their other liability exposure.

You haven’t thought through your cunning plans far enough. But that’s okay serf, after your first half dozen sobriety checkpoints, I suspect you’ll figure out real quick just how much you have given up in the guise of “saving lives”.

Hells bells!

Why bother with blood draws,...why not just hire an elite force of troopers and beat a confession out of anyone that they happen to think could help balance the state budget.

This is lame. I’m surprised to hear such kookism lauded on FR.

"Good evening, sir, how are you tonight? Where are you going? Where have you been? Do you have business in this part of town? How many drinks have you had tonight? Is that your daughter in the back seat, she looks scared. Can you prove it is your daughter?

You don't mind if we search your car, do you? You do, hmmm, step out of the car please while we ask the little girl if she is ok. Car is then turned inside out and all items left on the roadside, driver ticketed for 2 broken taillights and child not properly secured.

Have a nice night, and get those lights fixed.

I would prefer a blood draw if stopped, since I don’t trust the accuracy of other tests. That said, I’d be pissed if stopped and forced to give blood. I’d probably sue based on a warrant under false premises. I don’t think you can just stop and search every vehicle, although I could well be wrong.

AZ has blood testing and we still have off the chart DUIs.

Only a Prison is a safe place. Some of the former eastern European countries were virtually crime free, no unemployed.
Is that what you want in Texas?

No reason to stop there, R2nd, the U.S. should just ban alcohol altogether, then tobacco, then transfats, then R2nd.

Why don’t you go down there daily and have them draw blood from you just in case you are driving drunk. I guess you wouldn’t have any problem with that now would ya?

ISTR that the Supremes ruled checkpoints constitutional, but normally police need a reason to pull you over or question you. .

Less than one % of those stopped in a DUI checkpoint meet the level of DUI. Quite a feat considering the threshold is now .08 in most states.

I hardly think that result is worth the additional loss of freedom.

Spare me the if it saves one life argument.
