BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Are Idaho police academy graduates trying to cause Posttraumatic Stress Disorder?
That's the message on the latest class's graduation programs, and it's got leaders of the Idaho Police Officer Standards and Training Academy doing damage control.
The program read, "Don't suffer from PTSD, go out and cause it."
Jeff Black, who heads up the academy in Meridian, Idaho, where the latest class graduated December 14th, says, "That's not something we encourage or condone. We were mortified it was in there."
Apparently, each academy class chooses its own slogan. This is the one that the latest class of 43 officers wanted - before returning to 19 police agencies around the state to start their jobs.
PTSD is an anxiety disorder, common after violent attacks or war.
Black says, "Our class president was ex-military. It slipped in."
That’s funny. Totally and completely wrong, of course...but funny.
It was just a joke, but leave it to the PC crowd to cry about it being “too mean”.
I didn't read it as a joke and I've never experienced it as as joke.
You don’t think the PD was really trying to encourage cops to induce PISD, do you?
Yeah, I sort of figured. Military humor is particularly mordant and does not always translate happily into civilian life, where the rules are different. The latter is, after all, what the military is serving to protect.
My own relations with Idaho state law enforcement agents have been without exception professional and admirable. (Even the guy who stopped me for speeding on the flimsy pretext that I was, uh, driving too fast... ;-) )
can't wait till this psycho-macho-steroid-rambo-asshole sickness all comes to ahead.
it a truth hidden in a wisecrack.
the objective is to win compliance. by any means necessary.
Oh the horror! /sarcasm
News flash: The cops are not military! (Although, that seems to be the misconception these days.)
Hilarious. The Marines they ain’t.
some people simply refuse to pay attention.
Don’t look at me!
I’m a stress donor...
“You dont think the PD was really trying to encourage cops to induce PISD, do you?”
As an Idaho native, the answer would be yes...
Look, folks, lighten up on the Idaho LEO's. They're (mostly, at least) great guys and I'm behind them. They're not all about playing Rambo. I'm usually the first to criticize the JBT's because they're real, but these guys ain't them.
Just macho gungho motivational speech IMO.
In all seriousness, years ago, I was the only person that survived a car accident and got the diagnosis.
I thought it was funny, but I’m an RN in a critical care area, so I guess I have the same warped sense of humor.
Well, I think it is funny.
