Archbishop of Canterbury warns greed could wreck the Earth (Environmental Christmas Sermon)

The leader of the world's Anglicans slammed "human greed" in his Christmas sermon, saying it threatened the Earth's fragile environmental balance.

Doctor Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, told worshippers at Canterbury Cathedral in south-east England, that humanity needed to protect the world created by God.

People should treat each other and nature with "reverence", the Church of England leader said.

"More and more (is) clearly required of us as we grow in awareness of how fragile is the balance of species and environments in the world and just how our greed distorts it.

"When we threaten the balance of things, we don't just put our material survival at risk; more profoundly we put our spiritual sensitivity at risk -- the possibility of being opened up to endless wonder by the world around us."

The archbishop also stressed the need to respect others and praised "brave and loving people" in Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

"The delight and reverence we should have towards the things of creation is intensified many times where human relationships are concerned," he said.

"And if peace is to be more than a pause in open conflict, it must be grounded in this passionate amazed reverence for others.

Doctor Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, slammed "human greed" in his Christmas sermon,

I'm sure this will go over well among his tens of millions of followers in the Global South, where concern with survival is a real, personal, day-to-day issue and not a genteel parlor-game abstraction.

Any mention of the Birth of Christ? I can’t read this right now I don’t want to ruin my day

No mention of the Birth of Christ. Just a woman and a kid. But remember, the Archbishop of Canterbury is a Druid, not a Christian, so Jesus is a nobody to him--or should we say, a mere legend.

Good grief! The ECUSA has been committing suicide for years, now it appears the Anglicans are losing their collective minds as well.

It’s starting to be embarrassing to be an Episcopalian. I don’t think I’m alone in that.

I have no answers really, just questions.”

And they wonder why the Church of England is withering. If the scripture doesn't hold answers for a bishop talking to a child about mundane problems, then this branch of the church deserves to be pruned off and cast into the fire. It is obviously devoid of fruit.

Someone needs to tell this little gnome that greed (as in those of odd, quaint, and deviant sexual persuasions wanting what they want and wanting it now!!) not only could but is wrecking the Anglican Communion.

Honestly, the guy looks like he hasn’t had a proper bowel-movement in a month.

And...it isn’t human greed that’ll destroy the earth, although that is part of it. It’s SIN. The only thing that’ll save you from sin is Jesus.

I wonder when the last time he preached about the Name or the Blood of Christ...if ever?

“Starting”?? You must have a high tolerance for apostasy and heresy.

Archbishop of Canterbury warns greed could wreck the Earth (Environmental Christmas Sermon)

No kidding! The human environment is primarily that created by humans, secondarily the geological environment. Most of human efforts go toward mitigating the bad effects on human acitivty of the unpredictable, often inclement, physical environment. As humans we live primarily in a manmade world. Our economies and our inventions are our environment. And our governments either protect (Constitutionalism) or prey upon (socialism) that environment.

The true environmental damage that threatens mankind comes from the greed of the politicians and green bureaucrats to control ALL of that primary human environment and make it into what they alone believe it should be.

They deserve as much love as pests that consume our crops or terrorists who attack our social/political environment. And they deserve the same fate.

The archbishop argued that Christmas cards which showed the Virgin Mary cradling the baby Jesus, flanked by shepherds and wise men, were misleading.

This is true. The shepherds attended the birth of Jesus. The wise men came after Jesus was already a toddler and living in a different city.

I can’t stand this Archbishop for his other views, but a lot of what he said is accurate. It’s pretty well-acknowledged that Jesus was not born on Dec. 25th. That was the time for Mithra’s birth and even that was probably selected for its proximity to the Winter Solstice.

There is a ‘rich tapestry’ of human history and just because many legends, myths or lies are told, does not mean the truth isn’t more interesting or that we have to sacrifice all belief because a few details may be wrong.

Williams has apparently been taking counsel and advice from former New Jersey Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong. Spong’s schtick was that the Nativity story and Christianity as a whole must be demythologized and replaced with secular humanist dogma. With crackpots like Williams and Spong leading the worldwide Anglican movement, is there any wonder that the church is but a shadow of what it was just 40 years ago, or that what remains is now splintering?

Anglicanism is growing and strongest in Africa, where church leaders can’t afford to sell their souls to the gods of relativism, secularism, and collectivism. Rather than pointing fingers at the “greedy,” perhaps Williams should examine himself and ask why he has found it necessary take up a fifth column through the Faith of our fathers.

An Anglican church that makes its credo the abandoning of the Word of God will continue its loss of membership so long as it continues on that path.

This is another example of why the liberal, apostate denominations are hemorrhaging members like crazy. Or why, in countries like Britain where there are few non-State church alternatives, many simply leave forever.

Gad, I would’ve puked right then and there, if I’d attended that service. Bad enough to have a Green Santa (as we did here in Los Angeles last week) nagging shoppers at the mall not to use plastic. Pretty cheery for the kids, I bet. This church is in the fast lane toward destruction. Amazing to watch.

Anglicans are fractured. Unlike other Catholics the Anglican Catholic wants nothing to do with Feminazis or “Queers”. Therefore, Rowan Williams is past history. The reorganization of Anglicanism is amazing. It is Traditional Christianity and
based on the teachings of the “Church” before the Great Split and the Puritan revolutions. Goldstategop, you are a good person. Let see all Christians as Brothers and Sisters. Support all in the name of Jesus Christ!

His Church is disintegrating before everyone’s eyes, and all he can think of to give a sermon on for Christmas is freaking global warming.

What a putz.
