Republican presidential hopeful, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., like candidates Tancredo, Dodd, Biden and Kucinich, does not get a whole lot of press.
His supporters aren't flying blimps or sashaying Oprah on the stage. The Vietnam veteran began his career in politics at age 32, being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Rep. Duncan Hunter has stated in previous interviews his political hero is the late President, Ronald Reagan, and has steadfastly sought more resources for the military.
Hunter has backed the President on every Iraq vote.
Reporter James Lynch notes that Hunter "silenced the war critics two years ago when he introduced a resolution calling for the deployment of troops to Iraq to end immediately. He opposed the resolution but made his point that the majority of House members supported the war. His resolution was defeated, 403-3."
Hunter, 59, is one of the few politicians who has a child that has served in the armed forces in Iraq. His perspctive is unique as a veteran and parent of an active service member.
On the issues he is a traditional Republican, he votes conservatively on social and fiscal issues.
Hunter was on record opposing NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and the normalization of trade relations with China.
With regards to immigration, Hunter, whose district includes eastern San Diego, is reportedly a supporter of building fences along the Mexican border.
No, it's not. It's realizing that someone who wakes up one morning with no national name recognition, no national organization, and no reliable means of raising funds who nevertheless decides that they want to run for President is someone who simply isn't ready for the job.
Unlike FRed and the rest of the field who wish to pander to communist China (all in the name of "free trade" - trade with our ALLIES not communists) as well as allow millions of illegals to roam free in the US, although the law clearly states a fence SHALL BE built and illegals deported.
Yeah, thanks for all your help.
I wonder who you’ll settle for. Or what.
I'm not "settling" for anyone. But neither do I pin my hopes on a vanity candidate who has no idea how to run a national campaign, nor any apparent plan on how to overcome the other obstacles in his way.
Hunter's failure to recognize and properly respond to these problems indicates that he is not prepared for the job, even if by some crazy happenstance he manages to land into it.
Good for you.
Neither am I.
Merry Christmas!
Actually, in every conversation where I find someone who has heard of Duncan Hunter (and yes, HEARING of him is important), the response I get is "Duncan is clearly the best candidate but he doesn't have a chance so I'm supporting..."
See tagline for my response.
HUNTER/THOMPSON 2008!! Let’s get this thing rolling and maybe it will take hold, ya think?
“You can’t blame Hunter’s failure to rise on the press.”
Sure you can. When the MSM shows their news of the debates, etc. , you can’t find Hunter in the photos even when you’re looking for him! He is the best kept secret of the MSM. They don’t want the public knowing there is a candidate who opposes lop sided trade with China and actually has done something to secure the borders. But Huckabee...he’s ALL over the MSM.
It's not whining to point out the obvious...the MSM & even FOX continue to ignore him....seldom quote him...hardly ever give him credit for anything.
..He's the real-deal conservative, not some dreamed up RINO, so he's not acceptable to the 'powers that be'....
We, the people, have decided otherwise however.
An interesting take by a blogger:

I think when they poll, they say whom do you support on the primary: Guiliani, McCain, Romney, Huckabee or any of the others? Would not surprise me so Hunter would not show on the radar.
Oh well, I am voting for him in the primary regardless. In the primary is when I get to vote for the candidate that reflects my views and Hunter is the man.
Yes, I kind of like Hunter versus Obama. Wouldn’t that be fun.
A break-out candidate breaks out of the stranglehold the press keeps on the news. By definition.
Interesting. When Hunter supporters do the same thing, their comments get removed from Thompson threads.
Maybe we’re not the ones who are wound up so tight.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

This is just a guess mind you, but I think that Hunter’s one great failing is his dourness. He’s not a bright and happy fellow. Most of the other candidates are much better at putting on the phony Tony Robins informercial face, and apparently, it sells.
ANN IS RIGHT!!!
It's a good thing to take the polls with a grain of salt, but foolish to disregard them altogether because they aren't telling you what you want to hear. You're fond of bring up Gore and Bush, knowing that in reality the polls were well within the margin of error even though Gore was called and not Bush.
You're also fond of bring up the 1948 election where Eisenhower defeated Dewey, despite most of the press calling it for Dewey before the election, and the Chicago Tribune calling for Dewey even after the election. All true, no one would take that away from you.
However, like Gore v. Bush, it was a close race. Eisenhower beat Dewey by less than 5% of the vote. In hunter's case, you're asking everyone to believe that the polls are off by greater than 40%. Show me any American election where the polls were so gravely in error. Don't waste too much time though, it doesn't exist.
When the media tires of the other candidates, they will place DUNCAN HUNTER front and center.
