The Republican Party primary has so far been an exercise in none of the above. In their turns John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney seemed to be or seemed about to be frontrunners only to fall back as the party's likely voters got a sharper look at each of them. Even my old boss Newt Gingrich, without even announcing, had a handsome surge from 4-5 percent to 18-20 percent in February before falling back to single digits.

Well, I think you need to get out of your parent’s basement some more.
See the world.
Hillary's high negatives will be almost impossible to change. The public has an image of her. She has been in the public spotlight since 1992. No amount of image transformation can her image. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig. Wipe the floor? Hillary is having problems dealing with lightweights like Obama and Edwards within her own party.
The only hope the GOP has in 2008 is a Reagan Conservative. Only three are running and their names aren't Mitt, Rudy, John, or Fred. Fred is a McCain Liberal.
Then there is no hope [for you] because Hunter, Tancredo, and Paul don't stand a snowball's chance in Hell of being the nominee.
That can be viewed from a different perspective. How could an incumbent VP Gore lose to a virtually unknown governor from Texas who's only real asset was name recognition based on his father? Bush's victory was an upset, not the other way around.
Why is McClintock so widely-known and loved by California Republicans? Because McClintock has earned that recognition by putting himself out there, writing editorials, speaking out, BEING A LEADER. When he endorsed Thompson, it confirmed my trust in my own judgement.
CVA, a shocking number of California Republicans had never heard of Hunter until the primary because Hunter has failed to make himself known to them although he has had the same venues and opportunities as other better-known state Republicans. AFTER 26 YEARS!!!!!! This is not to criticize his conservative credentials, but it IS to point out that Hunter clearly lacks "the right stuff" to be president because he lacks the right stuff to win the regard and affection of fellow Republicans in his own state after TWENTY SIX YEARS!!!!
Tom McClintock is (as usual) right: Thompson is the guy Republicans need to support in the primary and for President of the U.S.
Yet you're willing to support an obscure Republican career politician in California who has completely failed, after TWENTY SIX YEARS in office in a safely traditional Republican district, to muster any significant name recognition or respect among fellow California conservatives. Even when he had the same opportunities and venues as others, such as Tom McClintock, who've been in office in for about the same length of time and who is well-known and highly regarded in Republican circles throughout this large, populous state.
Thompson isn't perfect -- no candidate is. But he's hands-down, obviously, clearly, absolutely, THE BEST IN THE FIELD. Rush, Mark Steyn, Mark Levin, Tom McClintock, John Ziegler, Steve King of Iowa, the NRTL -- understand this. You, on the other hand, don't get that Hunter is a downright dumb choice for tenfold the very reason you criticize Thompson. Fascinating.
And with Fred, Mitt, John or Wudy there is no hope for change in the GOP Not a snowballs chance in hell. They are corporate Globalist shills. Enjoy what is left of what was once the United States of America. Destroyed by the Democratic and Republican Parties in a early two decade old Bipartisan effort. But hey your stock dividends will look good {for a season}.
LOL Oh like a Vice presidents son from Texas???? LOL I didn't vote for him either time. I would not have voted for Fred a third time either. I listened to what Bush said in 2000 though. He sounded like a DEM and he has acted accordingly ever since. The fact this thread also has a lot of McCain support is halarious in itself.
You answered my question. Yes, you’re willing to hinge the Republican presidency on an obscure candidate whose 26-year career in politics has proven that he lacks the ability to reach and inspire fellow Republicans.
Did Bush do any better in his 8 year as POTUS? H*** No But you still love him huh?
I loathe what Bill Clinton is and did but Bill Clinton had 6 whole years of a GOP majority in two houses supporting many of his efforts. Then comes Bush. NOTHING! The I’m almost Gore but not quite GOP POTUS. You give me one good reason I should even care what happens to the GOP. I hope it Whigs and the sooner the better. I want to see the Globalist Corporate Board owned elected with it out of office and real conservatives who actually honor their oath replacing them. I am I clear enough now?
If the shoe were on the other foot and half the Dem presidential candidates were really conservatives, I'd be loving it too.
