yea, definitely fishy. why were they riding a subway train on Shabbos?

I understand that the train is running anyway and stopping at all stations, like a Shabbos elevator. A Shabbos elevator runs anyway, continuously. You simply walk in when the door closes and it stops at all floors until you get to you floor and you walk out.

Hence, kosher cruises. The ship/ train is going there anyway, and you are doing nothing to promote it's movement... you are simply along for the ride.

There is also a Chofetz Chaim precedent.

The fishy thing to me is that it has take since last Friday to report the story.

I'm more observant than most. I'm in shul for three hours plus most Shabbat mornings, and I study regularly. But I do sometimes do secular things on Friday night, and even occasional Saturdays, so it doesn't seem so odd to me that some nondescript group of Jews would be on a subway on Friday night.
