COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The man who killed four people at a church and missionary training center died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound, police said Tuesday.

Matthew Murray, 24, was struck multiple times by a security officer at New Life Church Sunday but died after firing a single shot at himself, the El Paso County Coroner's Office concluded after an autopsy.

The volunteer security woman is still a big hero for facing an armed man and protecting the congregation. After this, churches and synagogues, as well as malls, etc. should formulate or review their security plans. I suspect we will see jihadists imitating this crazy in the near future.

I doubt he would have killed himself, had he not run into someone with a gun, that was determined to prevent him from killing any more. They commit suicide, once they know the rampage is all over.

In armed combat it is not unheard of for someone to shoot themselves accidentally after they have been shot. This sometimes happens when they fall on their weapon and it discharges. If this assailant was being hit by the security guard’s rounds it seems to me the reflex would be to shoot back, not shoot himself. But I wasn’t there.

I was thinking that ‘as a former cop’, she was close enough to him for a kill shot and familiar enough with guns and shooting to make one if she wanted to... that’s what I meant.

This isn’t a video game. You only discharge a firearm at a living being if you have the intent to kill the target. All shots are “kill shots”.

It strikes me that this fact will give her peace. She took him out. He killed himself. She doesn’t ever have to deal with thoughts that she did take a life.

In the ME they have suicide bombers, - we seem to be getting a lot of suicide shooters in this country. Guys who go out and shoot as many people as they can and then blow their own brains out..

I remember a few years ago a couple in Colorado killed a popular local policeman that had just moved his family there from California. It was winter and there was a large hunt for the killers that were not found.
Then come spring some hikers found the two with bullets in their heads - supposedly they killed themselves, not too sure of that, either way, it was a good ending to the story.
