The GOP presidential candidate says U.S. sovereignty is at risk. Highway and trade officials and transportation consultants say there are no plans for such a project.
WASHINGTON -- The man from Arlington, Texas, could barely contain his smirk as he looked into a computer video camera to pose a question of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Run Paul is saving the constitution and our Republic from a non-existent road, not funded, not planned, and not under consideration. We’re soo lucky.

It’s hard to say what Ron Paul believes in at this point.
To: elhombrelibre
I agree with Paul on this issue.

You mean beyond the belief that we provoked al Qaeda into attacking us? True. This anile al Qaeda apologists is likely to come up with about anything out of his egotistical ambitions, so we should expect more charades and fanciful conspiracy theories. But oh what a patriot! He’s even saving the constitution!

It’s a non-issue. There is no road. There is no funding for the “road.” It’s bogus and demagogic.

As someone who is interested in learning about this, both sides, do you have any supporting documentation one way or the other?

I may hate NAFTA as much as everyone else, but not all freight originates in Monterrey and ends up in Kansas City. Not unless trucking companies want to add thousands of miles to each trip.

Would you rather be saved from a multi-billion dollar boondoggle after it's been built?

Its a non-issue. There is no road. There is no funding for the road. Its bogus and demagogic. Sure. The Texas govenor and legislature just spent the last year fighting each other over this because it doesn't exist.

You may be right, but Bush’s cozyness with the Mexican president, the amnesty bill, the recent entry of Mexican trucks on US highways, etc is worrysome.

Interstates undergo expansion all the time, including I-35.
To: elhombrelibre
Texas is funding it? We were being asked to fund our portion of it. The majority in the legislature want nothing to do with it. But it's Governor Perry's pet project. I think some of these idiot politicians see this as some kind of grand Union-Pacific project. If they did any research into the true history of that project they wouldn't want any part of this either.

From the article:
“...Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr. (R-Va.) had introduced a resolution expressing opposition to a NAFTA superhighway. It is signed by 42 congressmen, including Paul and two of his Republican presidential rivals, Reps. Duncan Hunter of California and Tom Tancredo of Colorado.”
So I guess that there are 41 other kooks in the House, including two other Republicans that were up there on the stage during the debate.

Texas is funding a super highway to Mexico?
