WARDEN MESSAGE: AFGHANISTAN’S NATIONAL MARTYRS DAY
U.S. Embassy Kabul released the following Warden Message on December 17:
The U.S. Embassy wishes to inform American citizens in Afghanistan that sustained terrorist activity through the holiday period of Eid-al-Adha is likely. Travel of Embassy personnel in the greater Kabul area is being carefully evaluated.
We take this opportunity to remind the community to review their safety precautions, particularly during the holiday season. The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas. Current information suggests that al-Qaida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics including assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings and bombings.
The U.S. Embassy strongly encourages all personnel to remain vigilant and to closely evaluate their personal security posture, practices and predictability, to include varying times, routes and venues whenever possible. Americans who find themselves in cases of extreme emergency in Afghanistan may contact the Embassy receptionist via 0700-10-8001 or the Consular Section via mobile at 0700-20-1908.
Updated information may be obtained by contacting the American Embassy in Kabul at usconsulkabul@state.gov or by calling the Consular Section at 0700-10-8380.
For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Departments Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_1161.html , the Travel Warning and Consular Information Sheet for Afghanistan can be found.
