Giuliani's Mistress Used N.Y. Police as Taxi Service
ABC News: The Blotter ^ | November 29, 2007 3:18 PM | Richard Esposito

Well before it was publicly known he was seeing her, then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan, former senior city officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

"She used the PD as her personal taxi service," said one former city official who worked for Giuliani.

New York papers reported in 2000 that the city had provided a security detail for Nathan, who became Giuliani's third wife after his divorce from Donna Hanover, who also had her own police security detail at the same time.

The former city officials said Giuliani expanded the budget for his security detail at the time. Politico.com reported yesterday that many of the security expenses were initially billed to obscure city agencies, effectively hiding them from oversight.

The former officials told ABCNews.com the extra costs involved overtime and per diem costs for officers traveling with Giuliani to secret weekend rendezvous with Nathan in the fashionable Hamptons resort area on Long Island.

When the New York City comptroller began to question the accounting, Mayor Giuliani's office declined to provide details to city security, officials told ABCNews.com today.

"The Comptroller's Office made repeated requests for the information in 2001 and 2002 but was informed that due to security concerns the information could not be provided," a spokesperson for the comptroller's office said.

Appearing in public for the first time today, Giuliani told ABC News the accusations he assigned a police security detail to his mistress and helped to hide the expenses in the mammoth New York City budget "a pre-debate hit job."

"I'm sorry, but I still don't understand why they filed these expenses the way they did," he said.

Former officials close to Giuliani say he had "zero" to do with how the police security expenses for Judith Nathan, who he since married, were accounted in the city budget.

The Giuliani campaign said it would also provide a former deputy mayor, Randy Mastro, to respond to the allegations later today.

Giuliani is expected to appear on CNBC at 6 p.m. today to answer questions about the accounting procedures.

So the great crime fighter cleaned up the streets of New York while cooking the books to hide his own self-dealing. Surprise, surprise.

I love seeing these articles now popping up about Rudy. Shows Hillary is feeling the pinch early on, or all this would be saved until after the Primary, should Rudy have won to use against him towards the General election.

He was never the great crime fighter. That honor goes to Ray Kelly, Jack Maple, Bill Bratton, the precinct commanders and the cops on the street.

THE SOONER PEOPLE OUTSIDE NYC REALIZE THIS, THE BETTER.

Honestly, someone is grasping at straws here. If Rudi was boinking Judi, then there’s a legit issue of whether she could be held for ransom or blackmail. Security is called for. If there is any issue at all, then it’s not whether Rudy should have been protecting Judi, but whether he should have been sweating up the sheets with her.

It’s like congressional pay raises. Everyone howls about a member of Congress taking home a few thousand dollars more, while conveniently forgetting the hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks for causes like the Liberace museum or mohair subsidies or a bridge to Ketchikan Island.

Eye on the ball, folks. Politicians will get perks for as long as there are politicians. Is it right that politicians nickel and dime the tax payer for their petty privileges? No, it isn’t. But the far more urgent matter is how they rape the taxpayer for pet projects that don’t put money directly in their pockets, but win over the home folks. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is a viable strategy if Paul votes in your district and Peter doesn’t.

Sure sounds like something Bill Clinton would do.

Nope, not voting for Rudy - ever.

Wow... I am shocked. I honestly expected these to surface AFTER Giuliani won the nomination. It seemed a clear part of the strategy to keep the voting public in the dark about who Rudy really was until he was the nominee. Then easily obliterate his candidacy.

But these stories about his mistress, and expenses, coming out now seems off... Is the new plan to get a candidate who can actually beat Hillary in there? Has she done something to piss off the press recently? Planting questions, rigging debates, insulting reporters or pollsters, anything of the sort? Hmm.

Yeah.....is the investigative team looking into Ms. Clinton's various predilections for truth or is Brian Ross inclined to just investigate the Ruddy stuff?

Sigh. It seems that sense of DU entitlement has tainted him, and her. Or perhaps that’s one mark of a RINO.

Unfaithful to his wives, unfaithful to his family, unfaithful to his constituents, unfaithful to his office, unfaithful to the taxpayers, unfaithful to the constitution, unfaithful to you and me. No thanks.

I think you're missing the point.

The issue isn't that the costs were incurred, but that they were hidden. The bills were assigned to other departments, in order to keep the truth hidden. It's lying, and it's corruption.

It's always the cover-up that gets you. Ask Nixon, ask Clinton.

I'm not endorsing the creep. Just pointing out that this is a weak argument. It's like complaining that someone is eating your french fries while he's stealing your car.
