Uh, you don’t live in Texas? Here’s the deal; you have an even chance of the cop planting something in the vehicle because they are payed incentives to make drug busts. I’ve practiced Criminal Law and my advice to clients, friends and family is simple. If you’re pulled over and the cop asks to search the vehicle you ask for the warrant; he doesn’t have one and will then ask if you are refusing permission to search the vehicle at which point you say yes unless you have a warrant. Then the cop will threaten to call the K-9 unit to have your car searched and he’ll tell you that it will take an hour to get there (as you stand in the blazing sun). You respond, bring it on, make it so and be sure you call in a Supervisor to oversee the operation. 9 times out of 10 they’ll back down, particularly if they were carrying an illegal substance to plant in your car in the first place because the dog will key off on that.
If they bring in the dog; you’ve still got a 50/50 chance of going to jail because they’ve trained the dogs to key off on hand signals.
Good Luck out there!
Nope. The dog's response then becomes probable cause to search the car. If no contraband is found during the search, you'll still walk.
Of course, they can always plant something during the search, but somehow I suspect most of the claims that this happened are from people with little credibility on the subject.
For that matter, the cops (or anybody else) can break into your car and plant drugs that you would have no idea are there. The K9 finds them and you go bye-bye. Your only defense at that point is your reputation.
I am in Texas. Your post was dead on right.
I think it’s just hysterical that so many “conservatives” hate law enforcement so bitterly, yet will probably still claim that they support law and order. Kinda funny, that.
I had it happen to me about 10 years ago on I-30 east of Dallas on my way home. The Highway Patrol pulled me over in the middle of the afternoon because I was driving an old pick up and had long hair and beard and I do have many Tat’s.
When I asked them why they had pulled me over they said something about my crossing over the white line on the side of the the road, not the lane divider.
After they verified my insurance and license and determined I was not wanted for anything they then started with the “Do you mind if I search your truck” Crap. When I told them that I would and that I spent 8 years in the military defending my country and its constitution I then got the “well I’ll just call in the Dogs and we’ll see if we have probable cause. I told them go ahead, I like dogs and that I have all the time in the world, besides I told them that as long as I had them tied up doing nothing they weren’t doing harm to others that may not know their rights as well as I did.
They called in a Sgt and when he arrived they spent about 30 seconds in conversation and came back to me handed me my documents and told me I was free to go.
Cops are not your friend.
Please relay what this “payed incentives” are,(cash, etc)how it’s disbursed, how much per arrest, etc. I have never heard of such a thing, and find it most curious.
