[history]
WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney experienced an irregular heartbeat Monday and will be evaluated at George Washington University Hospital.
The condition was detected when Cheney was seen by doctors for a lingering cough from a cold.
"During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart," said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.

... I am not sure if irregular heartbeat is horrible news. Many people have it...It depends on the nature of the irregularity. After all, fibrillation is a form of irregular heart rythm.

I honestly don’t feel he could be elected. He’d lose a ton of votes on his health alone. And he carries a pile of negatives with a lot of people across the spectrum.

I’m not sure what type of pacemaker Cheney has either, if it’s one to monitor irregular heartbeats (and then maybe only -life-threatening ones) or just the regular standard ones that looks for an absence of any heartbeat. My hubby doesn’t have a pacemeaker, he only gets these bouts once a year or so, so they’ve just been treating him medically.

other way around. The implanted defibrillator fires for ventricular arryhthmias. if the heart rate speeds up enough from the a fib the defibrillator could be “tricked” into firing, but normally one would not expect it to fire with a fib. Sounds like it is working appropriately to me.

Prayers for VP Cheney and his medical crew.

If Cheney can no longer stay in as VP, the president will choose a vp to take his place, his nomination will have to be approved by congress... Then heaven forbid, if something happened to Bush and Cheney, Pelosi would be next in line, then if something happened to Pelosi, it would be KKK Robert Byrd... Lord, Prayers that nothing will happen to both Bush and Cheney. -:)

Given the time of year, and this is Dick Cheney we’re talking about, perhaps it’s just buck fever.

I agree she is my first choice, actually my choice last year instead of making her SECSTATE.
If I had to pick from the current crop of Republican Presidential candidates, the top three IMHO are Hunter, Fred and Romney. I would say to choose Duncan Hunter.
Unfortunately, I think the President would be more inclined to McCain or Huckabee. I don't see him going for Rudy, remember Kerik - I think he still stings the Prez a bit. And I can't see him choosing Fred or Romney though they might be worthwhile or at least much better then McCain, Huckabee and Rudy (Rudy McHucky). (Sorry phlegm stuck in my throat at these three)

I would pay to watch Pelosi and Reid try to explain why Condi is not qualified to be the next VP but her thighness is...

Worst case,, should he need to leave office and I would not begrudge him an iota if he did, he’s served his country proudly over the years but health and family ought weigh heavy at a time like this too.
I wish him well, Prayers for a quick recupe.

I thought a-fib was probably what hes experiencing, my husband has had it before. They have meds to try to get the heart into a more normal rhythm, and if that doesnt work, they may resort to shocking it back. Its not life-threatening, its just the doctors dont like it to continue for too long, because then blood clots may develop. They probably have him on blood thinners right now as a precaution. Just my 2 cents from experience.
Depends on what it is due to
If an enlarged heart or bad valves etc they may not be able to correct it
It caused my mother to have a stroke and then several more on the next days then death
