A damn shame.

Howard has been our most faithful, clear-headed friend for many years.

Rudd is the epitome of muddle-headed greenie twaddle.

Interesting thing is the Murdoch media which used to back Howard before threw its support behind Rudd and the Labor party. This played a significant role in Howard’s defeat.

Murdoch media is also capable of similar manipulations in the US elections.

This is a "Dewey defeats Truman" type headline and it is incorrect. The headline is real enough, no blame for Dundee, I checked it at the link. However, even the article itself states that Howard lost, they just seems to have forgotten to change the title. I recommend that you remove it from Breaking News.

Howard conceded defeat already.

Defeated Howard thanks Australia

"Prime Minister John Howard has formally conceded defeat to Kevin Rudd in the federal election and paid tribute to the Australian people."

We're conservatives who understand that keeping the right to defend ourselves is the key to keeping a free society. That's who we are.

We support it here because it's written into our constitution.I haven't the foggiest idea if Australia has their own "second amendment" or not.If they don't and the majority of Aussies are happy with that then that's the way it should be....*there*.And *they've* managed to keep a free society so far...regardless of what gun laws might be in effect.

And since Australia is a key ally and a big part of the free world, we have every right to comment on their politics. Hence the existence of this thread.

Yes,one could say that we have the "right" to comment on their politics just as they have the right to comment about ours. But there's a difference between "comment" and "interference".

Driving on the wrong side of the road seems to work for the Aussies so I wouldn't say a thing about it other than that it's damn difficult for we Yanks to drive down there. And the reverse is also true.So perhaps we can keep our Second Amendment and if they want one too then I'm sure they can get it done.

Just my 2 cents' worth.

Murdoch likes to be seen to support the winner. Backing losing causes is not good presentationally, nor does it gain influence.

The same was seen in the UK in 1997 and since where his papers all endorsed Tony Blair.

Yep prepare for the similar result in out 2008 elections...

Unless the Republicans grow a set and start beating the Democrats over the head with thier open borders policy and their defeatists strategy against our most lethal enemies.

Many of us believe that the means to self defense is a basic human right, not just a U.S. Constitutional right.

Both major Aust parties are very much in favor of restricting gun ownership. This is another one of the issues which sharply divide urban and regional Australia, and people in the rural regions sometimes feel that their issues are overlooked.

There is a small - but quite respectable - Australian political party “The Shooters Party”, which support responsible gun ownership, hunting, outdoor sports and farmers.

http://www.shootersparty.org.au/

They have been elected to the upper house (Senate) in NSW state. I do not know how they are going in the Federal election yet, because the upper house is slow to count.

thanks...Rudd is so far to the Centre if he leans any further he’ll fall to the Right LOL! Reminds me of Tony Blair. His true opponents won’t be the conservatives - it’s the Left he’ll have trouble with.

IMO the Global Warming Climate Change Scare Campaign relentlessly waged by the media for the past year, that resulted in a very high vote for The Greens who give their preference votes to Labor had a lot to do with the result.

Now let’s see if Rudd can make it rain.

I’d like to say that conservatives in the US love your former Prime Minister and will always be grateful for his assistence to the US when we asked for help.

God bless John Howard and the people of Australia.
