I wonder about all the homes with fireplaces. You never heard these complaints about those.
You are right. My daughters wood burner hardly smokes at all. I wonder how in the world we all managed to survive growing up with wood heat our only source of heat. What a bunch of babies.
I caught the insult right away. The hill people here in Tennessee are such good decent people, it just makes me sick when they get called trashy because alot of them are poor. Poor doesn't mean trashy.
You must be very young. Us older folks grew up with wood heat and a government that didn’t make laws all the time, and alot of us aren’t dead yet.

I agree, the trashing of hill-folk is not only “OK”, it seems to be encouraged.

You are right about too many laws, however, when a neighbor prevents one from the full enjoyment of his property and refuses to take reasonable steps to prevent it, then it is either laws or guns.
Perhaps you are not familiar with the smoke an enclosed furnace produces. It is nothing like a standard fireplace smoke where there is an abundance of air for complete combustion and a chimney higher than the rooftop.
These outdoor furnaces are usually a small structure that will not by themselves support a smoke stack much over 15 feet.
Also, these furnaces get their efficiency (which is much better than a fireplace, but still low overall) from automatically starving the firebox of air when the needed temperature is achieved which produces about 10-20 minutes of a dense smoke, which according to some sources contain respiratory irritants and even some carcinogens. And when the furnace needs more heat and fresh air is injected into the firebox, there is again 10-20 mins of this dense smoke until the firebox reaches operating temperature.
Every once in while, due to no wind, this smoke settles around my house. It is not pleasant, and if anything ever feels like it could cause cancer or other problems, this is it. It would have to be my last resort to heat my home before i would do this to my neighbors. Fortunately for me, my nearest neighbor is almost a mile away.
