No, a comet did not cause the Flood. That would imply that G-d created it and set it on its cataclysmic journey many years before there was a sin to punish.

Or that a passing comet was nudged at the appropriate moment to send it into the earth to punish sin. Or that a comet was created at the needed moment to send it into the earth to punish sin. Or that God foresaw the growth of human sin and created a comet that would come when needed to punish human sin, etc, etc, etc.

yeah I made a mistake. I thought of a bunch of other reasons why there is no problem with the idea that the universe was ‘set up’ to punish evil.
