South Africa is another popular tourist destination to stay from. In 2005 there were 23,000 reported (and likely many more that were not) murders in a ppopulation of 40,000,000. That would translate into about 200,000 murders in the States. Another not-so-publicized fact is that even in Europe the police probably will not investigate the murder of a foreigner to the same degree as one its own citizens. You're better off vacationing in the good ole USA. BTW, Puerto Rico is not safe either, even though it is technically part of the U.S., and Hawaii has many high-crime areas (Samoan gangbangers will kill you for looking cross-eyed at them). I think I'll just stay home!

South Africa is a First World country (no thanks to the ANC). Dead bodies have to be autopsied where natural causes seem unlikely (i.e. cadavers in cars sporting bullet holes).
