Medved on 'Redacted': 'It Could Be the Worst Movie I've Ever Seen'
NewsBusters ^ | 18 November 2007 | Dave Pierre

"It could be the worst movie I've ever seen" ... "[T]he out and out worst, most disgusting, most hateful, most incompetent, most revolting, most loathsome, most reprehensible cinematic work I have ever encountered." ... "It portrays the members of our Marine Corps in the most disgusting way imaginable." ... "This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars." ... "I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film." ... "It is a slander on the United States of America." ... "Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed." ... "Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will!"

That's prominent movie critic Michael Medved on the new film "Redacted." Lest anyone think that Bill O'Reilly's recent outrage over the film is an overreaction, Medved tells Bill, "It's worse than you think."

Johnny Dollar's Place has the must-hear audio.

The following is a partial transcript:

MEDVED: ... I am actually one of the few people in the country who has seen the new movie. It is called "Redacted" ... And let me just tell you, before I go to actually reviewing it: It could be the worst movie I've ever seen. I mean, the out and out worst, most disgusting, most hateful, most incompetent, most revolting, most loathsome, most reprehensible cinematic work I have ever encountered. This is having reviewing movies for more than 25 years. [It] covers a lot of disgusting ground, but none more disgusting than 'Redacted,' which portrays the Marine Corps, one of the finest organizations ever assembled by human beings, portrays the U.S. Marine Corps, as corrupt, vicious, racist killers and rapists ... (snip) ...

It portrays the members of our Marine Corps in the most disgusting way imaginable. They hang out in barracks, drunk or stoned, with Confederate flags all over the place. And the head Marine, who is the leading rapist and murderer, is a big fat guy, I mean, hugely out of shape, right - just the typical Marine (sarcastic) - Marines tend not to look like that - big fat guy, overhanging belly, cigar-chomping, loud-mouthed, sort of fair-complexion. His name is Rush. Nothing in movies is an accident. They're clearly trying to indict and smear Rush Limbaugh by saying that secretly he wants to rape and abuse 14-year old girls and murder them and then burn their bodies ... (snip) ...

The film is atrociously acted. It's incredibly badly done ... (snip) ...

Look, I never say this. I don't believe in boycotts. I don't. But I actually think Bill O'Reilly, I know has been going on about this movie even though he hasn't seen it. O.K. I've now seen it. Bill, Bill - hey. It's worse than you think.

This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars as far as I'm concerned. It's very much Rated R. I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film. I have seen a lot of unspeakable garbage in years and years of reviewing movies. Nothing quite like this. It is a slander on the United States of America. It is a slander on the Marine Corps. It is a slander on our troops. Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, paid for this entirely. Now he elsewhere has given money to support the troops. I know he has. He ought to be ashamed. Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed. I will never see a Brian De Palma film in the same way again. This is a veteran Hollywood director. What is he trying to do with this kind of thing? Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will! Because it portrays the United States troops in Iraq as sick, murderous, deviant losers.

Ugh. Do yourself a favor. Avoid De Palma and Cuban's piece of filth and trash. This Thanksgiving, go see "Bella." It's a nice, sweet film, and it's great.

Do you mean that the animated character is insufferably oversexualized, just like the real Angelina Jolie? Please tell me in advance, that way I won’t waste my money. For animation, I’ve seen clips of the Bee Movie, and it looks pretty cute. Seinfeld said that it is 100% family-friendly.

Ebert was that clown who in 2000 said that we should all be voting for Algore. His credibility is z.e.r.o.

Nothing new to see here when it comes to how Hollyweird perceives the Marine Corps. Compare and contrast with "American Beauty" in which the Marine next-door neighbor was portrayed as a Nazi-worshiping, murderous, self-loathing closeted homosexual ...

Bill Murray was once rumored for that movie right?

I read the review. I don't think I will see the film.

Does anyone deny the below happened:

Army Details Rape-Slaying of Iraqi Girl

By RYAN LENZ, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - American soldiers took turns raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl, and one of them put a bullet through her head after killing her parents and 5-year-old sister, an Army investigator testified Monday.

The attack followed a session of whiskey drinking and card-playing during which five soldiers plotted the March 12 assault, criminal investigator Benjamin Bierce said.

He cited details from a sworn statement by Spc. James P. Barker in which the soldier told how he and his comrades practiced hitting golf balls before heading to the Iraqi teen’s home 250 yards from their post at a traffic checkpoint.

The testimony came on the second day of a hearing to determine whether the soldiers should stand trial in the rape-slaying of Abeer Qassim al-Janabi and the killing of her father, Qassim Hamza, her mother, Fikhriya Taha, and her sister, Hadeel Qassim Hamza, in the town of Mahmoudiya.

The rape and killings are among the worst in a series of cases of alleged misconduct by U.S. service members that have tarnished the American military.

Go see Beowulf instead. It is decidely NOT appropriate for young kids, and really deserves an “R” rating as opposed to a PG-13. But that said, Beowulf is simply outstanding, and nothing will send a better message to De Palma than a close to zero box take on his garbage.

$28.1 Million opening weekend box office take on Beowulf....

“Redacted” was redacted from my viewing list when I first heard of it.

Just watched “Amazing Grace”, which I highly recommend.

Nothing new to see here when it comes to how Hollyweird perceives the Marine Corps.

Why don't Conservatives start their own movie business? I've asked this question before. Their own movies, their own books, their own clothing, their own magazines... Wholesome stuff instead of the spew that Hollywood puts out. Instead of railing against Hollywood and all of the Hollywood types, I bet there are opportunities just waiting for creative Conservatives. Until we start creating businesses of our own, geared towards Conservatives, we're merely a subset of society, and not equal participants.

Daniel Stewart Sherman as Specialist B.B. Rush in the film Redacted.

"Just in time for Oscar consideration, Redacted, Rendition, Lions for Lambs. Coming to the news in February."

I wouldn't be surprised if all three of these films ended up on HBO in a couple of months, running 24/7 like they do the Bill Maher show.

Does anyone deny the below happened: [rape/murder allegation]

There were 70 executions in the ETO from 1942-Nov 1945 of US Armed Forces personnel -- most of them for rape. No one denies they happened. But were any movies made about them, either during the war or afterwards? What would have been the propaganda effect on our enemy at the time had there been such a movie made?

It’s easy to tell which movies Ebert will love. Anything anti-American. Seriously, I can’t think of an exception to this rule.

Yeah the movie’s lousy, but Medved ain’t much better for endorsing and fund raising for Eric Hogue to challenge a long-standing and strong conservative in my district for CONgress!!! Besides Hogue is WIERD!!! (It’s no wonder he’s tryin desperately to get out of the talk host business!!!)(politics:”show business for the unsightly!”)
