Spitzer to abandon plan giving driver's licenses for illegal immigrants (Good!)
AP via syracuse.com ^ | November 13, 2007

Congressional aides say New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has decided to abandon his plan to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

Officials familiar with the decision tell The Associated Press that Spitzer will meet Wednesday morning with New York's congressional delegation. Many of them have openly opposed the program and debate over the issue has spilled over into the presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because no formal announcement has been made, say that after the meeting, Spitzer will say he is shelving the plan and that immigration is a federal issue to be handled by Washington.

I agree. Sometimes I get rough on stupid issues but this one is complicated and requires much jurisprudence and guidance.

Take this for what it's worth. Someone posted this on Newsday comment board following their article about Elliott's cave in:

Inside Information: I hear that the Governor ceased his proposal at the behest of the Clintons. I heard there was a private conversation between a top official of the Senator's campaign and the Governor. Some say an intermediary was used, and that Former President Clinton was somewhat involved. It was expressed in the clearest language that this was coming from Ms. Clinton herself. Spitzer wanted to wait until Friday's slow weekend news cycle. The campaign countered he had until Thursday to make it go away, citing this week's CNN Democratic Debate. While Senator Clinton is hoping the issue will not be mentioned further, she has been preparing for a possible question in the debate. Her position will echo Governor Spitzer's new sentiment: That this is a "federal" issue. Look for another non-answer answer

What’s up with that? I thought the Clintons were in favor of illegals taking over America, too...

They are - and they might even have asked Spitzer to implement this plan (without realizing the commotion it would cause). But the commotion is here, Hillary doesn't know what position to take in public, and it's just causing too much trouble for them at this time.

Yeah I'm kind of going both ways with it, something like licenses should be about states rights but if they won't stop giving them to illegal aliens then we all suffer. Maybe the people within them will rise up as they have in NY. I hear groups in Oregon are trying to get a ballot initiative going to put an end to it there also so we got the ball rolling anyway.

LAUGH BREAK: Gov Spitzer is an equal opportunity campaign killer----he downed Hillary and nailed Giuliani in one blow. Licensing illegals hit the headlines Oct 2007 when Spitzer announced his plan to license illegals---a move that was expected to facilitate vote-fraud for millions of illegals.

LEFT IN THE LURCH: Giuliani's Choice for Homeland Security---his ex-Police Chief William Bratton-----came out publicly to Endorse Licensing Illegals

In a statement released by Spitzer’s office October 2007, LA Police Chief Bratton endorsed the licensing plan, saying: "As former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department and now Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (since 2002), I support efforts that have the potential to solve crimes and improve traffic safety. That’s why I backed legislation in California that would give undocumented immigrants the ability to get a driver’s license once they have provided proof of their identification. It is my belief that by doing that you would reduce the number of hit and runs and increase the number of insured motorists on the road. We would also now have undocumented immigrants’ identifying information on record such as photographs and addresses which could prove helpful in the fight against crime and terrorism. "

RUDY: I'D TAP MY OLD FOE BRATTON (for Homeland/Sec/Secretary)
By DAVID K. LI, NY POST, August 13, 2007

EXCERPT GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani floated an extraordinary olive branch to bitter rival William Bratton, hinting he'd consider his estranged former top cop for a high federal post. In an interview in this week's New Yorker magazine, Giuliani was asked whom he'd tap for Homeland Security secretary if elected to the White House. The former mayor lavished praise on his first police commissioner, Bratton, the city's top cop from 1994-96..... Giuliani is largely blamed for forcing Bratton, now LA police chief, out of office in an ugly battle of egos. "But you sort of look back on some of the things and say that was an extraordinarily productive relationship," Giuliani told the magazine. Now that I look back on it, I really appreciate the (Bratton) relationship."

Kerik, NY's top cop from 2000 to 2001 and a close friend of Giuliani's, was briefly nominated for Homeland Security's top post by President Bush. Kerik withdrew, claiming his employment of an illegal nanny would make his confirmation too difficult. It soon emerged that Kerik had a flood of ethics allegations that were much more serious.

The problem is Washington is mandated to protect the border.
So far they will not do it because they believe the violators are here to seek work and not to attack. It is time for a President to understand the problem.

Bye bye Spitzer if he covered anything up. That is unless Soares can help him wiggle out of it again...

That’s it, if the feds would keep them from coming into the country in the first place we wouldn’t have this problem. The fault really does lie with them.

Congressional aides say New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has decided to abandon his plan to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

Clinton went against the wishes of enormous grassroots opposition when she flubbed her debate answer to a nitwit plan by Gov Spitzer to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens. The next day Hillary sought to "clarify" her position by inexplicably endorsing the sure-fail Spitzer licensng plan.

He may be just trying to get people off-guard and sneak parts of the program into place by getting subtle things thrown into other legislation.

All it takes is a fake driver’s license and fake social security card to get a job in America.

How did the 19 hijackers get on the planes?

Sorry to hear this...sort of. It was great fun watching them squirm and wiggle trying to make it sound like a good idea - to say nothing of a great issue for Republicans.

However, I have faith the nut-cases in the Democrat party will soon find a way to step in another pile of excrement that we can exploit; if we can get the Republican Party to get its act together....whos leading the show - its hard to tell!!

Gonna be an interesting year!
