DENVER, Colorado, November 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- After weeks of review, the Colorado Supreme Court has just released a decision granting Colorado for Equal Rights permission to move forward with a ballot initiative to restore personhood to human beings from the moment of conception.

Presidential candidate Dr. Alan Keyes, along with American Life League Founder Judie Brown, will speak about the necessity of such an initiative.

Colorado for Equal Rights will now begin gathering the 76,000 signatures required to put this issue on the November Ballot. This Constitutional Amendment will redefine the term "Person" in three parts of the Colorado Constitution to mean from the moment of fertilization.

Despite two unanimous votes from the Title Board, the petition was appealed based on claims that it dealt with more than one issue. The Colorado Supreme Court ruled that the petition was, indeed, a single-subject issue and affirmed previous rulings by the Title Board.

"We fully expected this positive decision from the Colorado Supreme Court. We are pleased that they supported the Title Board's previous decisions. Plans to begin our petition drive are underway," stated Kristi Burton, spokesperson of Colorado for Equal Rights.

A press conference will be held today, Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at 3:45pm in the Pine Room of the Timbers Hotel at 4411 Peoria St. in Denver, Colorado, to discuss the ruling.

I am a Canadian and I’ve been praying for this ballot effort for many months because this could really be the beginning of fetal rights in the United States.

What does the proposal actually say? The AP had a really biased headline saying that it could pave the way for “Egg rights”. But the snippets of the amendment don’t lead me to believe that.

Year after year, Duncan Hunter has tried to get legislation passed with the bill he authored, the personhood-at-conception bill that has over 100 co-sponsors, which would define personhood as moment of conception, so, it would allow us to have a reversal of the effects of Roe v. Wade without a constitutional amendment.

I dunno. Doesn't the govt. recognize the personhood, not only of all races, sexes, colors and creeds (despite the originalist Founding Fathers not granting equal rights to women, slaves, etc.)? And doesn't the government recognize corporations, ships at sea, and other entities as legal persons?

I've never understood the legal implications of all that.

"Egg rights"? Crazy. Gametes are different from zygotes because gametes are not on a developmental trajectory to grow their own cells, tissues, organs, and systems, and zygotes are on such a trajectory.

That's why referring to a zygote as a "fertilized egg" is misleading. It's as misleading as calling a Supreme Court Justice a naked ape.

It's as misleading as calling a Supreme Court Justice a naked ape.

That all depends on which justice you are referring to!
