Small brewers from Australia to Oregon face the daunting prospect of tweaking their recipes or experimenting less with new brews thanks to a worldwide shortage of one key beer ingredient and rising prices for others.

It’s another myth — Unfortunately, the crop-ethanol CO2 cycle does not yield a positive result. More CO2 is produced than is saved. Burning gasoline wins. We could grow other crops and do the photosynthesis and CO2 conversion and eat the result.
The only thing driving ethanol is the tax credits and subsidies.
The CO2 from the automobile is used by plants, oceans and soil. The last time CO2 rose, the plants and animals just got bigger. And it was many times higher than today.
The things we don’t know about the weather and resulting climate could fill volumes. No decrepit computer model is ever going to be able to predict the interaction of the 30-35 variables involved and produce useful predictions.
Something to ponder, the 100,000 year ice age cycle is a recent occurrence, started in the last 6 million years or so. Maybe glow-bull warming is a good thing instead of the next ice age.

Being a part time brewer and home brewer, I can’t see most small breweries changing ingredient levels. They are proud of their beers and consistency is a big part of their goal. Many of us beer snobs, who would rather die of thirst than drink a Sludgewiser, will taste the difference if ‘tweeked’ too much. Especially changing hops. (see my screen name) I will personally not buy from a brewer who has changed the flavor of my favorite beers. I WILL pay more to get what I have come to love and expect.
