In his own words: Mitt Romney 1.0

"My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate, not the Jesse Helmses." - Source

"In my view, it is not a good idea to go into a [Contract With America] like what was organized by the Republican Party in Washington, laying out a whole series of things which the party said, 'These are the thing's we're going to do.' I think that's a mistake." - Source

"Look, I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush." - Source

“I remember in my earliest political experience my father fighting to keep the John Birch Society from playing too strong a role in the Republican Party. He walked out of the Republican National Convention in 1964, when Barry Goldwater said, ‘Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.’ Because he saw that as a tacit approval of the effort the John Birch Society was making to influence the Republican Party. I think that extremists who would force their views on the party and try to shape the party are making a mistake." - Source

"We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts. I support them. I won't chip away at them. I believe they help protect us and provide for our safety." - Source

"Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people." - Source

"I don't think [The Brady Bill's mandated waiting period] will have a massive effect on crime but I think it will have a positive effect." - Source

"I don't line up with the NRA." - Source

"I've been a hunter pretty much all my life." - Source

"I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have, since the time when my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, we should sustain and support it. I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." - Source

"I think it would be a positive thing to have women have the choice of taking morning-after pills….I would favor having it available." - Source

"There will be children born to same-sex couples, and adopted by same-sax couples, and I believe that there should be rights and privileges associated with those unions and with the children that are part of those unions." - Source

"All people should be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation." - Source

I am in this campaign because Mitt holds the largest number of positives.

It's those that claim their candidate is the Second Coming that have a hard time understanding why we support Romney. I never claimed Romney was perfect, but that his positive qualities far outweigh the positives of any other candidate.

Look at it this way: Romney is as or more conservative than Bush and most here probably voted for Bush twice.

“There’s nothing you can do after Mitt gives us judicial activists and otherwise non-conservative, Roe v. Wade-friendly judges. (for example)”

You do not know that he will. It is a speculative smear that he might. And even if he does your premise is false.

Just think Harriet Myers.

You do not know that he will.
But all of his statements above indicate that he is a poor risk.
It is a speculative smear that he might.
Although it is speculation based on Mitt's own recorded utterances, it is not a "smear." What an over-reaction. It's counter-productive to become emotionally invested in a candidate. It inhibits logic.

When he truly shows he has converted, and for more than a couple of years right before a planned run for the White House, we will..

Conversions of convenience are not really conversions at all...

“JUST TO be sure that you are correct in your assessments, and not just obstinate, when will you confront Mitt Romney in person with these weighty arguments? If you don’t then, your arguments are fluff, so please stop repeating them here.”

That’s a big pantsload. Like Romney will give me the time of day, just so I can have a one hour theological and political discussion with him. Are you an operative of the Romney campaign? Why don’t you hook me up and I’d be happy to rip him a new one in a public forum no less.

“your arguments are fluff, so please stop repeating them here.”

Blow it out your ear, I don’t take directions from nutty Mittbot enforcers.

“Look at it this way: Romney is as or more conservative than Bush and most here probably voted for Bush twice.”

Would that be the same Bush who ran us out of the House and Senate in 2006 based on his spending and amnesty for illegal aliens? WoooHoo, now that’s a great analogy leading directly to defeat in 2008.

The biggest positive that a candidate can possess is that he can win.

I don't care if Mitt can win or not! I care whetther or not he will govern "conservatively" because anything less is useless.

Mccain, Snowe, Collins, Hagel, and all the other rino's could win but look where it's gotten conservatives. Conservatives do not need to give in to your kind of thinking NOW because, NOW Mitt is not the only choice we have, we need a conservative to choose.

What don't some you people not understand about, NO MORE RINO'S!!!!

Good points. This time around we have to keep in mind that if we Republicans lose this election, because some voting bloc get ticked off and “stays home” or even worse, “goes third party”, we will be responsible for escorting Bill and Hill back into the Oval Office, with all the implications that has for the future of this country.

Makes you wonder two things:

1. Why isn't he a Democrat?

2. How is it possible that any conservatives would support him?

Fred voted for McCain-Feingold and he voted to let Bill Clinton off the hook during impeachment. Fred did some pro abortion lobbying, I hear.

I’d be careful about casting stones at Mitt Romney if I were you.

Fred voted to convict Clinton on the obstruction of justice charge. Had enough others voted the same Clinton would have been thrown out.

Yes Fred voted for CFR, and Bush signed it.....Fred has since expressed regret for that vote so your point is moot.

Fred did not do pro-abortion lobbying, he gave advice as an employee of a law firm. Fred has a 100% pro life record and has been endorsed by the NRTL and several other pro-life orgs. His pro-life cred is air tight. Get over it.

Don't even try to put Fred in the same category as Mitt-flop when it comes to support for pro-life positions. Mitt's support for the evil Culture of Death is so complete that he disgusts me.

Saundra knows all of that. She’s been informed of it 100 times. It’s just the best that she can come up with. She’s reduced to toying with the truth to try to make her points.
