A major element of PC ideology is the belief that Europeans came to the New World illegitimately, as conquerors and killers, destroying the native peoples and cultures of the Western Hemisphere, and imposing Western civilization, hierarchical, Christian, and exploitative, upon supposedly egalitarian, animistic, and environmentally friendly people. This ideology comes through in history textbooks and in the entertainment media, in cartoons like Pocahontas or movies like Dancing with Wolves. If it could be proven that the Northeast Asians who are commonly called Indians were themselves an aggressive, usurping race who wiped out earlier inhabitants who had originated in Europe or Polynesia, their claim to victimhood and government subsidies would be less valid.
