Why Duncan Hunter needs to be our Next President
Marc the Infidel ^ | 11/3/07 | Marc

I am publicly stating who I support for the 2008 Republican nominee for President, California Representative, Duncan Hunter. Why? The reasons are many but the primary underlying reason is, he better than any other candidate, be they Republican or Democrat, at understand the world landscape both economically and politically. His over all goal is a stronger more protected America.

Hunter, more than any other name on the ballot, is a student of history, not just recent history, he, as they say, sees the big picture. Unlike politicians of the past who have given away the American Dream as a good faith gesture to the world, Hunter wants to protect what is ours. On a regular basis, we always seems to be the ones extending the olive branch to the world only to have it stepped on.

In recent weeks he has spoken out harshly about the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) as it gives US sovereignty of the sea to (gulp) the UN. Hunter stated that:

“It is imperative that our nation does not surrender decision making power for military navigation or resource extraction, especially in this age of terrorism with technology and weapons proliferation. And adding a new set of UN bureaucrats with license to tax and adjudicate disputes is the last thing this country needs.” … ”Rest assured no treaty that infringes on the sovereignty of the United States, or further empowers the United Nations, will get anything but a trip to the waste basket in a Hunter Administration.”

See what I mean? This guy “gets it”!

He is the only candidate who consistently sees China as someone we should be cautious of, while everyone else sees China as a former Communist nation on the brink of democracy. Other see their exploding market as a potential for American big business to blossom, while Hunter sees the same thing, he is thinking of America first, the business executives second.

Just today he released a press release in which he publicly calls on Mitt Romney, founder of Bain Capital and Republican presidential candidate, to put an end to a business deal with a Chinese company who is negociating for the acquisition of US defense conractor 3COM. The kicker here is that the founder of this company is an officer of the Peoples Liberation Army of Communist China and is being accused of providing Saddam Hussein with the technology to target US aircraft and helping the Taliban develop surveillance equipment.

Hunter said to Romney in writing;

“I am extremely concerned that Governor Romney’s company would tout a highly suspect Chinese corporation as a strategic partner,” stated Hunter. “Forming a business partnership with a corporation known to have direct ties with terrorists and dictators while, at the same time, openly seeking to acquire a major U.S. corporation that performs vital cyber security work for the Department of Defense, can only be characterized as irresponsible.”

What other candidate would step out and do the right thing like this? Duncan Hunter does his homework, that is what will make him a very effective POTUS. This wasn’t a political ploy, this was Hunter looking out for America, for you and me.

The more you read about him, the more, I am sure, you will realize that he sees things the way most Amiercans do.

At this stage with about 60 days until the selection process begins in Iowa on Jan. 3, Wyoming on Jan. 5, Michigan on Jan. 15, South Carolina/Nevada on Jan. 19, New Hampshire on Jan. 22, Florida on Jan. 29 and then Super Tuesday on Feb. 5 the likelyhood of a bottom dweller coming to the top is very remote and they most likely will have very little influence on the outcome in each state. Go look at the polling data state by state and it’s going to come down to a three or four person race at best, probably three. Time is rapidly running out and until candidates make their concession speeches they are in the race and should continue to push and get voters interested in defeating the democrats.

I agree that Hunter is great. I just don’t think he has the national recognition to be the Republican nominee.

What I’d love to see is him take up the VP role under Thompson with a shoe-in ‘16 presidency.

That’s my dream for 16 years of presidential bliss, anyway.

I have no illusions that Hunter can win the nomination or the general election. My argument has been and remains that with 3 times the political experience compared to Thompson he is far more qualified and would make a better POTUS.

I wasn’t being defensive was I? I was being defensive by asking how I had harassed you? Read your original comment to me and tell me which of us seems defensive.

I blew a headpipe some time ago, that is not at issue here. Once again, what are you talking about and how did I harass you?

Thompson can’t hold a birthday candle to Duncan Hunter. Thompson is playing his part. Hunter has been living his all of his life.

The push polls are run by liberals so you are going to base your decision on a push poll???? The issues are what should be voted on not what some liberal poll says or even the RINO polls? Only the vote matters, not what a poll says!

Good points, all of them. You’re right she would poll at 20% easily. All she would have to do is “say” she was a conservative and serve up some conservative positions. The electorate would buy it. They seem to like to trust the “sayers” and overlook the “doers”.

He may make the best POTUS but he isn’t going to be POTUS. I know polls are unreliable but if he isn’t polling in the double digits by the end of the month he and the others who are polling in the single digits should drop out. The primaries may come down to a single percentage point. Which do you want to see? Hillary vs. Thompson or Hillary vs. Mr. I’m a freakin’ RINO.

If you insist on voting only for the candidate of your dreams you may end up faced with the candidate of your nightmares.

Does the following South Carolina state poll question sound like a push poll? Never the less believe what you want to and as you say the come to Jesus moment is fast approaching and the voters will have the last say. And that is how it should bde.

That is a good argument if the voters elected a nominee based upon who was far more qualified. But that isn’t the only thing they select upon obviously and thus quite often the most qualified as one perceives them may not be the one selected.

Three times the political experience maybe a negative and not the gemstone it sounds like.

Fred Thompson = 8 years political experience.

Duncan Hunter = 3X that with 26.

I see what you're saying, but few folks hold 13 or so terms in Congress in high esteem. The term "career politician" comes to mind. It's best to sift what he's done in his time there.

and the winner is..... UNDECIDED.. I think the percentage of “undecided” is actaully a lot higher than that... the fact of the matter is it is still too early in the campaign.. the grassroots activists are driving the trains right now.. in a few short weeks we will see which train gets the most passengers..

TOWARD VICTORY

Really??? Wouldn't that be compromising your grand principles to ditch your 2nd choice and vote for your 3rd choice because of another FReeper's comments? You're arrogant AND inconsistent. Buh-bye. Don't take yourself too seriously. I don't.

*Yawn.* Your deliberate(?) obtuseness has become tiresome.

Yep........ They are rejecting the top and bottom tier alike at this time. My bet will be that the undecideds won’t all flock as a group to one of the lowest candidate[s] in the mixture.... They’ll split more likely towards the top tier. It takes money and lots of it to sway them one way or the other... 60% of the delegates will be selected in just over 3 months [super tuesday] and the process starts in 60 days...

It will be interesting to see the outcome as this is most certainly a different primary than any the GOP has seen in a number of years. Good luck in your efforts to promote Hunter.

Better voting for a second tier real guy than a first tier sellout.

Actually I TOTALLY disagree with you.. I think the Undecided folks WANT to vote for Duncan Hunter but are waiting to see if his campaign gets any traction.... the fact of the matter is that IF everyone who is waiting for the Duncan Hunter campaign to “get traction” actually starts PUBLICLY supporting him now.. the campaign will get enough traction to SURGE, the media will have to pay attention which will only increase his numbers even more.. then the rest is history... President Duncan Hunter !

I think a lot of the conservative base is not going to tollerate a 2008 GOP party nomininee that is a RINO.. and if the party fails to elect the ONLY conservative in the race (DUNCAN HUNTER) -— than we (THE GOP) and as a nation in general will get exactly what we deserve for “selling our souls to the devil”... President HildaBeast — will lead us toward the Battle of Armageddon — fortunately for me I am a Pre-Tribulationist Christian — so I wont be around to experience that mess...
