Here is a chart that tells the actual death rate in the years that you list.

Great catch. Really puts things in perspective. MSM would never report on this — violates their storyline of soliders as victims instead of heroes.

A major factor (perhaps THE major factor) is the dramatic improvement in trauma care over the last decade. We are saving many that previously would have been lost.

When you look at the statistics for everyday on-the-job accidents you will find that the percentages for the civilian and military sector are about the same. The main contributing factor is "not following instructions!"

While stationed at Minot in the early 70s tis ws proven true on three separate occassions.

A B-52 crashed on take-off. One of seven crewmembers survived. Investigation showed that the fueling plan had not been followed and too much fuel was pumped into the aft fuel tank. The co-pilot whose checklist job includes fueling parameters did not correct this situation by pumping fuel into the forward tank. He was the one survivor and the accident investigation pointed out his failure. Results six dead!

A Huey that was tranporting six Security Police to a launch control center crashed. Seven Dead! What happened? The baggage compartment wash not propery closed. The door came off in flight and struck the rear rotor. Pilot lost control and the ship crashed!

A B-52 was being refueled and caught fire and blew up. Why. The refueling chief was sitting in the cockpit SMOKING! Nearby aircraft were waved because the refueling crews manned the flight line fire extinguishers. The only fatality was the smokin' fool and he is probably still smokin' in hell!

The propoganda pulsating from the pusillanemous press is PHOOEY!

Between 1975-1980 military aviation fatalities were common result of mechanical failures and pilot errors. Mechanics were then often stoned or burned out. Faulty parts were sent to the fleet from facilities St. Louis and always from low bid contractors. Nobody had the budget to keep pilots current and proficient.

In WESTPac we had: A-6s commonly crashing in the Philippine volcanoes (12 KIA). C-1a CODs with rudder assist reversals in Atsugi and Clark (24 KIA). A-4s killed another Bruce and many more. The training command was just as deadly. I had T-39 pals go down. Texas midair killed my pal Kirk plus two crews. F-14 crash killed my squadron mate Rusty C.
Lousy training, aircraft and attitude. It was a dangerous time to be in the military. While most of our contemporaries at home lived in the fantasy world of peace love and happiness.

Let's not forget the guys who were blown off ships, thrown off ships, stabbed, shot or murdered in Olongapo, Manila, Kadena, Osaka, etc. Car and motorcycle wrecks killed an equal number to all of the above.

How many times we sang, “Eternal Father strong to save, whose Hand doth soothe the restless wave.....” Every time I hear the words their names and faces scroll through my memory. Innocents then and Saints now. God Bless them and forgive the rest of us.

These numbers don’t seem to be in agreement those given in the CRS report (not actually a DoD report). How is it that everyone who reads the CRS report gives different numbers and different percentages? I encourage everyone to go to the source itself and do your own addition and percents. Each repeat of this message changes according to the author’s agenda. Facts ought to be facts, not always changing.
