Witnesses said they heard a loud blast then watched as the choking smoke and fumes spread out across London – which could be seen from 30 miles away.
“It’s the most incredible pall of smoke, it looked like an atomic bomb had gone off,” said another eyewitness.

Scotland Yard said there were no reports of an explosion, and witnesses confirmed they had not heard anything. “There wasn’t any bang as such,” one witness told Sky News.
