The precedent has been set. You may malign the United States Military, fat people (real or perceived), smokers, President of the United States George W. Bush, ANYONE in his administration, but especially blacks in his cabinet, any conservative and Christians with no backlash.

If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings.
Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners."
Turban Durbin, June 2005

“Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.
John al-Murthawi, May 2006

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Jon Effin Carry, October 2006

However, do not, I repeat DO NOT make a disparaging remark about certain protected classes.

Talk Show Host Graham Fired By WMAL Over Islam Remarks

According to WMAL, Graham said "Islam is a terrorist organization" 23 times on his July 25 program. On the same show, he also said repeatedly that "moderate Muslims are those who only want to kill Jews" and that "the problem is not extremism. The problem is Islam."

The comments drew complaints and prompted an organized letter-writing campaign against WMAL and its advertisers by a Muslim group, the Council on American-Islam Relations (CAIR) of Washington.

CAIR applauded WMAL's decision. The organization had asked the station for a retraction or an apology, but "we didn't get specific on what [Graham] should say," said Rabiah Ahmed, a spokeswoman. "We were looking for an acknowledgment that his statements were anti-Muslim and hateful, and harmful to our community and our country's image."

CBS Fires Don Imus Over Racial Slur

He acknowledged again that calling the Rutgers women's basketball players "nappy-headed hos" a day after they had competed in the NCAA championship game had been "really stupid." He said he had apologized enough and wasn't going to whine about his fate.

The Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson met with Moonves to advocate Imus' removal.

Jackson called the firing “a victory for public decency. No one should use the public airwaves to transmit racial or sexual degradation."

Said Sharpton: “He says he wants to be forgiven. I hope he continues in that process. But we cannot afford a precedent established that the airways can commercialize and mainstream sexism and racism."

What a bunch of macaca!!!

Apart from the subject matter, with which I strongly disagree, Mr. Rall’s work is puerile and stupid, and not in the least bit funny. His cartoons look like something out of a middle school newspaper. How this idiot ever got his work published, let alone syndicated, is beyond my comprehension.

These political cartoons, etc. date back to at least the civil war (so-called) period, to the best of my knowledge; and, I expect, will continue into the future...

One of the most noteworth cases, of recent vintage, is the one referred to in the following, titled “Sadistic Irony.”
