Candidates for state agriculture commissioner and Louisiana’s attorney general spent Sunday preparing for the Nov. 17 runoff. Democrat incumbent Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom, 72, was forced into a runoff with 48-year-old state Rep. Mike Strain, R-Covington, who has served in the Legislature since 1999.
Attorney General Charles Foti, a 69-year-old Democrat, was ousted Saturday after coming in third in three-way race.

But Republican Governor-elect Bobby Jindal, who won Saturday’s primary election with 54 percent of the vote statewide, said Sunday that he would not endorse or help the Republican challengers in the two remaining races.
“I have ‘R’ next to my name but for me the campaign is over,” Jindal said.
Democrat Buddy Caldwell of Tallulah, 61, a longtime district attorney for East Carroll, Madison and Tensas parishes in northeast Louisiana, is in the run-off with 41-year-old former Congressional aide Royal Alexander, a Shreveport Republican.

However the Taranto article may have a few discrepancies.
Not all people in India can trace their origins as caucesians. The nomadic Aryans invaded India over 3000 years ago were caucasians. The people existing prior to that invasion were the Dravidians who were much darker skinned than the invading Aryans. After several thousand years of living in the Indian sun, most Indians are now of the dark brown variety although exceptions still abound.
With the loss of about 600,000 African American voters in New Orleans, the state is basically a very Republican state.
The fact that a Democrat is not in one of the Major runoffs is news.
Even in the case of Bobby Jindal and the race for Governor, not only did the Democrat pull less than 20% of the vote, but an Independent candidate almost got more votes that the second running Democrat.
I don't think Bobby Jindal will go out and campaign unless he is asked to, and the only bad spot for Republicans in this election is the election of Mitch Landrieu for Lt. Governor.
There are now many predicting that Democrat-turned-Republican Kennedy will defeat Mitch's sister Mary next year for the US Senate -- giving Louisiana two Republicans in the Senate.
Additionally, Mary Landrieu the last time she ran promised to vote pro-life, and she received voted pro-abortion, which I will personally make sure that people are aware of this. Catholic South Louisiana will not tolerate a pro-abort in office...

Good for Jindal! He was elected to roll up his sleeves and solve the mess Blank-o left, not continue to play party politics. The last thing Jindal needs to become is another good-old boy in Louisiana's notorious political system. It's a new day in LA, and I predict Jindal will be a fantastic Governor.

So there’s the best visual proof that this is not a story about New Orleans being cleared out.
To be sure, New Orleans cast far fewer votes than it did in 2003 — something like 75,000 versus 130,000. Yet in case you suscribe to the theory that all the Democratic voters were washed away in the storm, Jindal improved only slightly in New Orleans between the two elections, by about 3 percent. That’s an indication of how diverse the people must have been who moved out of the Orleans parish — although there are now fewer votes in New Orleans, they exited proportionally.
What’s more, Jefferson Parish, which gave Jindal more than 60 percent of its votes in both elections, cast about 30,000 fewer votes in 2007. And there, too, the displaced voters appear to have been a cross-section of both parties, as his gains were very small — again, about 3 percent.
So no, Hurricane Katrina was not some kind of political boon for Karl Rove or any other evil Republican mastermind. The storm appears to have displaced Republicans as well as Democrats — although I have no idea how many of the displaced are now voting in other parts of the state anyway.
I’ve also put together and published a Google Spreadsheet of Jindal’s 2007 and 2003 percentages by parish, highlighting the parishes where Jindal had an improvement greater than 5 percent (I included 2007 vote totals so you’d have some idea of how important each parish is, some are quite small). I haven’t done all of the map-searching for the parishes yet, but I can already tell just by looking that many of Jindal’s biggest improvements were in the northern “Piney Woods” parishes, where white Protestants defeated Jindal in 2003. That was the real difference in this race — that and the fact that none of the other candidates were terribly inspiring to anyone.
The great irony of this election is precisely the racial question. Jindal’s defeat created such buyer’s remorse over Blanco that it evidently removed any racial questions from the minds of northern Louisiana white voters the second time around. Plus, Louisiana now has four years to get used to having a dark-skinned governor — a great chance to open the minds of anyone who has a problem with that.

He has run for office in LA before. Your ignorance of his existence isn’t his fault.

2. Graduated Brown University with honors in biology and public policy.
3. Was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and earned a Masters degree in political science.
4. Is the only American of Indian ancestry in Congress, and only the second in history.
5. Has been married since 1997 and has three children.
6. Is “100 percent against abortion, no exceptions”.
7. Is a fierce opponent of stem cell research.
8. Has an ‘A’ rating from Gun Owners of America.
9. Is a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee.
10. Supports co-payments in Medicaid.
11. Sponsored the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act (H.R. 4761), a bill to eliminate the moratorium on offshore oil and gas drilling over the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf.
12. Supports the war effort in Iraq.
13. Won his House seat in 2003 with 78% of the vote and was elected Freshman Class President by his colleagues.
All jives with my views except abortion must be legal in case of incest or rape. And abortion must not be permitted when the fetus can survive on its own...aprox 4.5 months into pregnancy.
Other than that I like jindal’s stands.

I never heard of the guy before because every story that I read is Katrina related out of La. for the most part so it got shuffled in with a blur. I think my reaction of being a skeptic about him is justified considering the context of the article and the quote from him.

Maybe that is not the case.
But between the inept handling of things by Kathleen Blanco, and the blatant criminal acts of William (da helicopter) Jefferson, I think Louisiana is getting fed up with Democratic nonsense.
Of course, Bobby Jindal's dark skin might start appealing to African Americans.
But then many Cajuns (Hub City area) consider themselves to be white when they have a dark skin. The dark skinned French are not uncommon to this part of Louisiana.
I think it is still telling about how well the third party candidate did. The Democratic Party candidate really did look like a horses arse on TV.
This is the first time an Independent Candidate has done so well in a major race in Louisiana that I have ever heard of.
I still think it is news that the Independent placed a very strong third place and almost finished ahead of a Democrat...
