Do you think that there will be looting, raping and pillaging inside of Qualcomm?

When people learn that nature takes management they might be more willing to pay landowners to perform it. Bureaucracies are inept, expensive, and have no structural motive to succeed.

See tag line.

I wonder if any homegrown jihadis are complicit in these fires?

Praying for you all. I know that area well and dealt with the aftermath of the Cedar and Paradise Fires as part of my job.

For perspective, we had these large wildfires every year in Alabama (a woodland state) until the late 1940’s and early 1950’s when we instituted scientific forestry management.

Now we’ve got logging roads strategically placed to serve as fire breaks in ways that limit most of our fires to a mere 100 acres.

This is why you no longer hear about great forest fires in Alabama.

Such large fires *can* be stopped with proper land management from mature adults.

The pyros are out today and they aim to burn So Cal to the ground:

6:18 a.m.: Two fires burning 160 acres; homes evacuated
Melissa Pinion-Whitt, Staff writer

ONTARIO - Two brush fires fueled by 30 to 40 mph Santa Ana winds are burning in the south part of the city, prompting evacuations and damaging structures.
One of the blazes is burning in the 8600 block of East Schaefer Avenue and the other is in the 13000 block of South Walker Avenue. The fires have burned about 160 acres, said Ontario fire spokesman Jacob Green.

More than 100 firefighters from Ontario and surrounding agencies battled the blaze, dealing with low visibility and high winds and blowing debris, Green said.

Mandatory evacuations were in effect for residents south of Schaefer, east of Grove Avenue, north of Edison Avenue and west of Walker Avenue.

Residents were evacuated to the Westwind Community Center at 2425 Riverside Drive in Ontario. Firefighters established a disaster hotline for residents, (909) 988-3650.

Unfortunately, many Orange County and San Bernadino county cities have engines in Malibu. So California fire departments are stretched thin. I watched Fullerton FD battle a structure fire in Burbank last night.

There should probably just be one thread for all of the fires burning in SoCal. It’s going to be a long day.

From Ramona down to Escondido, saw it on the news, then got a call from a buddy of mine.

“You got any room for a vagabond family?”

“What’s up buddy?”

“Ramona has been evacuated.”

“Come on down!”

We have no idea how many people are affected, nor do we know how long issue will remain.

Good luck to all involved in this fiasco.

I have a friend stuck traveling north on the I-15.

She says much of the traffic heading south are convoys of fire trucks.

I feel badly for the animals...both inside and outside of the park.

Prayers for all those going through this.
It is one thing to evacuate an approaching storm, quite another when fire is involved. I’d be terrified!

SF, I’ve been trying to figure out if my brother’s family is in the evacuation area. I’m nearly sure it is. I’ve found I-5, I-15, and Lake Hodges on mapquest, but can’t find state route 56. Do you happen to know whether it’s known by another name?

The Indians from Patagonia to Alaska regularly and purposefully burned away the underbrush every year in the areas near their villages and towns.

Maybe we should learn from how they managed nature on this continent.

Prayers for safety for all in California affected by these terrible fires.

Lightning, arson, down power line, camp fire, etc. will always cause fires. You have got to prepare for it. Prescribed, controlled burns, logging, etc. can prevent or mediate, these catastrophes.

If CA doesn't change some laws (environmental laws), they will be in the same situation two years from now.

Boy, History is a harsh mistress...just like in the Middle East, and Russia, etc...

Sheesh.

I just got off the phone with my brother who's house survived the 2003 fire that we all watched here on FR hosted by KarlinBurbank, but this time my brother says that they're probably going to lose the house in Blue Jay, Lake Arrowhead.

Fire started this morning with no warning, and all of Arrowhead/Big Bear/Running Springs firefighters are nowhere in sight. They must be helping with the San Diego fires or trying to save Pauly Shore's and Rosie O'Donnel's houses in Malibu.

While I had him on the phone, he was watching TV at a tire store down the mountain and saw the news helicopter widen their video shot and realized that he was looking at his whole neighborhood under the smoke.

They barely got out of there this morning with fire on the ground about 150 yards from the house and the wind blowing directly at the front door. They packed up what they could and split.

Right before I called, my brother says that he got a call from someone that's still up on the mountain saying that as of 1pm PST, his home is still standing but is surrounded by fire on three sides. Twenty-two homes the next hill crest over from his are all gone.

If his home survives, and I hope that it does, it will be like a solitary home in the middle of the planet Mars once this fire has run it's course. This is the fire that probably should have happened back in 2003 with all the dead pines from the bark beetle infestation.

Anyone who would care to offer special prayers for my brother's family in particular in your next chat with the Lord, you have my thanks.

Among the communities in the evacuation area are Rancho Sante Fe, Carmel Highlands, Rancho Bernardo, Del Mar Heights and Fairbanks Ranch and parts of Rancho Penasquitos.
