UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

Marta on KTLA said that there are NO winds whatsoever in Hollywood.
Yes, the Agua Dulce area fire is between your friend and me. Sure looks awful down there.
Ahhhhh . . . a pet topic of yours.
It’s a good thing you’re a ghost.
Otherwise, you would cause me great concern for humanity...
1 civilian killed but 4 FF injured, is that correct?
The cables have all gone back to politics.
It might be good to close your windows and turn on the air conditioner, air filter, and/or fans now before this chunky air drifts in your direction and before the wind changes direction.
Yes, well stated. I think I’ll take the word of your first-hand experience over the fulminations of dodo-heads who have never been here, or probably much of anywhere as a matter of fact.
Except, maybe under a bridge somewhere....:-)
San Diego update:
Ramona airbase is hoping they’ll be able to get a single air crane back up (they were grounded for awhile b/c of winds) and they are going to send it to Potrero.
Winds are SO heavy over the Witch Creek/Ramona/Santa Ysabel fire that the 7 aircraft in the area are unable to go up and do drops at the moment. There were 5 drops earlier in the day, but b/c of updrafts, the fire retardent didn’t hit the targets and the aircraft were not effective.
So the 7 air tankers on standby in Ramona to go up as soon as it’s safe for them to go back up and resume drops. But that 1 air crane they’re hoping to get down to the Harris fire soon.
Yes, that’s what they’ve been saying, WestCoastGal. The injured firefighters were taken to the UCSD Burn Center and are expected to survive.
We’re now hearing they think it was a crew of 5 FFs that had been overtaken. They are all apparently at UCSD.
4 civilians injured, and the 1 who was killed. All of those were at the Harris/Potrero fire in south SD county.

Yep, looking into your left ear I can look straight through and see forever....
Dorothy is a ditz.
Thank you.
Prayers for all involved.
I was way too close to the Laguna Beach fire years ago, I know the frightening and helpless feeling being in their situation.
Another poster was speculating on why the fires moved so fast, and whether locals opposition to fire breaks, brush cutting/burning may have contributed.
Seemed to me to be very reasonable and timely questions.
But 'Chila slapped him around, so I gave her a whack, too.
Here is the link to a map of ALL fire locations:

I suggest reading the thread before you “ponder.”
Scary business, very brave men and women ...firefighters.
It must be extra frustrating waiting on the winds to slow down.
