UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

People and animals die in these "inconveniences". Besides there is the possibility that these fires are deliberately started. Just because some people have more than others does not give anyone the right to destroy their homes and their lives and their well-being. Some of us have friends and family in these areas, and even if we don't we do have human compassion.
I thought that was northern mexico?
Yep...I heard the same thing about the Malibu one...
Thanks!
Some artwork was saved... kinda.....
Handel just said James Cameron and Olivia Newton-John are among those evacuated from their homes this morning. He's on top of it!

We had RECORD LOW RAINFALL last year, and the topography of the area is what it is. The Santa Ana winds are also a force of nature and were very fierce last night. Has nothing to do with “lefties.” Brush clearance has improved greatly over the years.
People like to live in this lovely combination of mountains and coastline and take the risks associated with the benefits.
This isn’t the time to speculate “blame.”
Bouquet Cyn has trees down blocking all lanes, including power lines down. So that’s another area to watch.
The Santa Clarita said FD had it knocked down, now it’s raging? Sierra Hwy/Placerita Cyn/SR14

I tuned in KFI.com to hear my weekly dose of Leo Laporte and found out about these fires. The KFI dude DID say, however, that this pattern of Santa Anas are supposed to peter out after about 48 hours...Monday night, I think he said.
BTTT for later.
