Good morning, Everyone. Good morning

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities. Hmmmm, I think if I had to choose my fav it would be Independence Day and/or ET. I did like Serenity. I was sorry to see that they took it (as FireFly) off tv.

DC Metroland weather report ~ Today....Partly cloudy. High 78F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. ~ Tonight....Mostly cloudy. Low 57F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.

I did get everything I need to get done, yesterday, so all I have to do is start working on the stuff sitting on my desk. This will require me to be in and out of the Canteen. I'll have my pinger on so I'll know if anyone needs me.

Time for me to make my rounds. Have to go read all my pings and do my morning Howdys. But, you stay right where you are. Don't touch that dial. Don't change that channel. Put down that remote. Don't leave the room. Keep your eyes on your monitor. Cause...............I'll be bock!

Now remember, the Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above Honoring those who have served before.

Good morning and (((HUGS))) EG. I’m dealing with back pain this week. Actually, it’s been about a week and half since I pulled the muscle. It’s slowly, very slowly, moving its way down my back. I’ve tried just about everything, but this morning OUCH! So, I’m trying to work sitting in this no-good chair at the desk. I’m also review info on the XM radio. I’ve got three free months in my new car. I’ve got to decide if I want to keep it.

Ok, howz things with you? Did you get any of that rain?

((LOL))Well, yep we did get a little bit of rain but the main story was the wind and all that lightning which did cause that power outage at our house early Monday morning.

The forecast is for more bad weather tonight and especially tommorow. There is a Moderate Risk of severe weather over parts of Central and Eastern Oklahoma. Hopefully it will move East of us before it starts develping but it all depends on how much moisture we get.

We slept real well last night. As opposed to the night before. It sure felt good.

WOW! Boy, hope you don’t get hit too bad.

I guess I’d better keep my eye on the weather channel.

Well, I didn’t like the new version of Time Machine :^).

Actually, I am a big sci-fi fan. (I’ve already apologized that I didn’t realize I was being hard on a vanity post.) Verne and Wells aren’t my favorite authors.

As for Verne: I did like the original movie versions of Journey to the Center of the Earth, and 20000 Leagues beneath the sea. I never like reading him, but I’ve read harsh criticisms of the translators; I should check out more modern translations.

As for Wells: That’s tough. He’s created so many of the templates for modern sci-fi, including those of excellent works, I do have to give him his due. Give more credit to another Wells (or Welles), but War of the Worlds is a blast. But his enthusiastic support of authoritarianism (he was an avowed Stalinist) and pervasive nihilism makes it hard to just get lost in his worlds. I find ancient (pre-1950s :^D) sci-fi works best when it is mythological, and the more Wells gets to explain himself, the more fun he robs from his stories.

Some to think of it:
I should try reading Verne in French! (That’d be some way to re-learn my HS French!)

Good morning to everyone at the Canteen.
Check out the on line video at the link below. That is a great way to take shots at the Congress.

Do yourself a favor and rent it ASAP. One of the best ever. Great character development, conflict, action, special effects only as necessary. WAY overlooked.

“It makes it look like it’s going to be Buffy/Xena/Warrior Space Woman or somehting and that wasn’t what it was about.”

Good observation. The movie was a hundred times better than that poster would lead you to believe.

Forbidden Planet - one could call it a Star Trek episode.

Aliens - the first one was good but I liked the second one better. The third one I thought sucked because they killed off the little girl and Cpl. Hicks. I never saw the fourth one.

I have to disagree with you on Independence Day. There were so many errors and plot holes in the film it made it more stupid than anything else. Which, IMO, is too bad because it had the makings of a classic sci-fi film.

War of the Worlds - the one with Gene Barry.
