Ann Coulter is Not Helping
American Thinker ^ | October 13, 2007 | Richard Baehr

...The issue with Coulter is not whether she can sell books, but whether she helps or hurts the side of the political debate she claims to support. In my opinion, Coulter has never been a big help to the effort to build a conservative and Republican majority. Her most recent comments on the relationship of Christianity to Judaism, made on the CNBC show " The Big Idea" with Donnie Deutsch on Monday of this week , may prove particularly damaging...

At a time when party affiliation is fraying and a third of Americans consider themselves independent, to build a majority of 50% plus one requires persuasion. Independents will not accept all parts of either party's platform or approach but will choose a candidate for office based on which issues matter to them, and whether one or the other party connects with them on those issues. It is a skill to disagree at times without being disagreeable. Ronald Reagan had it, and it is one of the reasons he became so popular and patched together a large winning coalition . Coulter has clearly decided there is no economic advantage for her in this approach...

There are 30,000 Christian denominations in the USA. Which flavor should we all convert to?

That's a slightly different barrel of fish, isn't it? Denomination is irrelevant (and I would argue that most of them shouldn't exist, but we'll get to that in a moment) so long as a church/denomination holds to the tenants of Christianity. These are:

  1. The Bible is the inerrant, literal Word of God
  2. All humans are mired in sin before birth
  3. Ergo, all humans deserve nothing less than eternal damnation
  4. God, in His grace, provided a sacrifice for this sin in His Son (begotten, not made in the words of Constantine's creed) Jesus Christ who, being perfect in all things, was able to provide the perfect sacrifice
  5. This sacrifice is a gift of God, come of grace, not works; no one is ever worthy...ever.
  6. Jesus is 100% man and 100% God
  7. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, crucified dead and buried, and on the third day he rose again
  8. Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead. Those who have accepted the free gift of salvation will enter heaven and those who have not will be sentenced to eternal damnation "where there will be fire and gnashing of teeth"

I may have missed something or misstated it and, if so, I do apologize. You will notice something interesting about that list: many, if not most, of the "30,000" (is that a real number or something you pulled out of your sleeve?) you mentioned would fail to qualify as Christians under that list. There are far too many heretical "Christian" churches.

I know plenty of good Christians who don’t make public asses of themselves.

So..are you saying there are no Communist Jews? Are they a myth now? And what would their agenda be exactly?

I would say it's the same as all socialists...no?

By the way..I think Christian Communists are moonbats as well.

Ann is observant?

Help me here, because I’ve researched this extensively and can’t find an answer-—
Where does she go to church on a regular basis?
What denomination is she affiliated with?
What church has her as a member?
Where does she regularly tithe?
What church or religious charities is she actively involved in?

And most of all,
When does she exhibit Christlike behavior?

I don't respect anyone that tries to eveangelize (sic) me.

Which necessarily means that you don't respect Christianity. So why all the outrage? Ann Coulter never said she didn't respect Jewish folk.

My religion is off limits.

Off limits to what? Speech?

As I said before, "perfect" yourself. My Christian friends, of which I have many from a variety of denominations, from Presbyterian to LDS, respect my religion enough to NEVER try to convert me, as I would NEVER try to convert them.

Well, historically speaking Jews were great evangelists up until the Romans told them it was either stop evangelizing or they cut heads off. But Christians evangelize, a simple no thanks I have my own faith is probably a better answer than the outrage you project.

"Should I be outraged that Jews vote overwhelmingly democrat while Israel's foremost supporters in America, aside from Jewish folk, are Christians?" Huh? This has something to do with Ann Coulter making a statement that is borderline anti-Semitic?

Certainly, I'm afraid that my outrage and offended genes are malfunctioning. I'm checking with you to find out if they are functioning correctly. Should I be outraged?

You are hyperventilating, just a tad.

As for the 10% of Jews that do vote Republican, they are gone.

I think that was 1% but have it your way. The fact remains that Christians need to know their place.

Communist Jews, Christian Commuinists, Conservative Socialists, Freedom Loving Fascists.

Time has evidently passed me by.

You’re right,
if Ann looked like Helen Thomas,
yet said the same words, wrote the same books and
acted the same way,
she’d be laughed at, dismissed and called a bitter old bat.

It’s shallow sycophancy, period.

I tink it is more like 1% but lets not keep our eye off the ball Christians are the enemy.

I applaud her for having the guts that most in the GOP just do not have.

That's where we disagree. Bellicosity doesn't pass for courage in my book.

Well, Richard, you couldn’t think of a better way to forward the cause than to waste precious ink dumping on another republican?

She’s on Ann’s side. Part of me can’t blame her. She’s found a way to make millions on top of millions and she’s milking it. I don’t think for a moment that she even believes everything she writes. It’s those who idolize her that I don’t claim to get.

Proselytizing, as a Christian, is a Christian behavior. It is that Christian behavior for which she is being attacked.

I don’t know where she goes to church although I did catch some show recently where she invited someone to accompany her to a church service where she attends. I didn’t commit it to memory. Perhaps it was Alan Colmes.

Ann Coulter is like the precocious child whose parents alternately glow with pride and cringe over. With Ann, you get both.

uh no, YOU are attempting to legitimize a comment that is idiotic, at best, and anti-semitic, at worst.

I have watched it, I have read it numerous times. Coulter is so in awe of her own controversial status that, I'm sure that she intended this was calculated to be just another one of her bombs that blow up the left.

Well, it didn't blow up the left. It PO'd a whole bunch of people, including solid conservatives, who happen to be Jewish.

But instead of apologizing, Heaven Forbid, instead of Ann saying "folks, this is what I meant...I said it badly and I truly apologize...I did not intend to insult or demean the Jewish religion", you dig in your heels and attempt to legitimize her comments by telling me that it is the duty of Christians to CONVERT me? And, therefore, I shouldn't be offended?

Well, I don't want to be evangelized, converted, fried, grilled or fricaseed. I want to practice MY religion, not yours.
