I understand what you're saying, but for me it comes down to freedom. If the land there is for sale, someone has a right to buy it. Just because the locals there liked their setup doesn't give them the right to close the place down to outsiders and development.

If they had wanted the island to remain as it was, they should have bought the land up and sat on it.

I snagged 5 acres, 20 years ago. It shows on Google Earth as a rectangle of green in the middle of almost bare earth. From the air, you can’t even see the 2 homes on it. I still live in Florida, not on a golf course.
